There stands the reaper, claws stained with the blood of another and what seems to be the figure of a young child . Gasps surrounded the ghost as he slowly made his way towards the doctor, only to gently place the poor child amongst the rest of her wounded . ' consider this ... a Christmas miracle '
voices die down & people part around her, sharp inhales marking their surprise. attention caught, mercy follows their stares. no one stirs as he approaches, & chills run down her spine; shoulders tighten in a wave of fear. a place of healing, a sanctuary, sacred, for the wounded. he was a creature of nightmares, something the ill would never deserve to lay eyes on. but he was here; he found her.
she sees the child & only stiffens more; her composure hardens to bury her dread. what had he done? she wants to take the child from him though she stands frozen; she can’t remember the last time she saw him. here she felt as safe as she made it for patients. no harm is brought here — it’s meant to be free of threat, free of him. holding her breath until the reaper sets him down. she moves immediately to his side, checking pulse & breathing. he’s okay, & she looks up to colleagues to motion them over before meeting his vacant eyes.
this is a reminder she never wanted, & something holidays could do without. he knows where she is, but reaper brought someone in need, someone that she could help instead of a terrorizing the people. in a twisted sense, angela isn’t wrong to consider it a miracle as he says. this is humane, a more gentle gesture than she thought him capable of. she won’t push her luck; breath shaky she inhales deep, her voice almost pleading beneath her brisk demeanor.
