What a great great video :-) The Sound of Arrows - MAGIC
Today was a good day.
I went to work and got to spend the whole day outside, breathing fresh air and being comforted by the sun and the spring breeze.
After work, I got a good deal on a poster frame for my Conifers of the Pacific Northwest poster which I got at the Seattle Garden Show.
Finally, I ended the day by studying with David at the Starbucks where Delon works. I got there just after twilight, and the mall was quite beautiful. The temperature was agreeable, so I parked myself outside, next to the fireplace. So pleasant it was when the fireplace was lit. The music they play at the HighStreet Mall is great; I'm sure it's a dreampop or chillout station. I find that mall to be a pleasing space. The colours are very easy on the eyes, and there's lots of texture and light everywhere. I like that there are many curves in the layout of the "streets", and that the music plays on outdoor speakers. It's just so very pleasant.
My friend David was very "on" today. So enthusiastic. Full of pep and vigor.
We talked a bit about what he wants to do in the future. "Lawyer" is the closest thing I can get to describing it. What I really want to know is how he wants to influence the world for the better, but he said that question was too big to answer at the moment. I suppose that sort of answer comes with time and experience.
He said he wishes his opinions of career choices weren't influenced so much by society. He just wants things to be open, you know? One should do something because one wants to, not because one wants to be praised, fulfill a familial legacy, or to be admired. Basically you just gotta be true to yourself man.
It's funny, the other day, we were talking about thinking styles, and he mentioned that he likes theoretical stuff more than practical things. He's drawn to causes, purposes, and reasons, not steps, formulas, and directions. He prefers shades of grey.
Yet, from our conversation tonight, what he expressed most certainly indicates a black-and-white view of the world. He was explaining a deeply held, selective outlook.
I write about this because I want to understand the way he thinks on a deeper level, and the reason for that is out of love. I want to love, respect, and understand him. Isn't this the basis of friendship?
To be honest, I'm concerned that I might be getting relegated to "study friend" or "classmate", when I want to be more than that. This is something I'd like to discuss with him after exams are over (This could get even more complicated because he's planning to go tree planting up by Prince Rupert/George/whatever) this summer. However, David mentioned that he looked up some of the music I said I liked ("I didn't know you were into music"). He even used the word "cool" to describe some of my favourite bands. Benkyo narimasu!
Today was certainly a good day.
