Film Genre - Sound Project - Recording
As part of our sound project, we have to source and create sounds as part of our soundtrack. I assigned different sounds to people in my group, most being sounds which could be sourced online. Once sourced, we each upload the sound files to the shared google drive so that Euan (who will be the sound editor and mixer) can access them.
Whilst discussing the various sounds we needed, we realised some might require some recording on our part (marked under the heading ‘General’). Euan, Robyn and Laura met one afternoon to record some sounds. Euan then recording more sounds and atmos by himself.
Here are some behind the scenes pictures.
We figured out that we could place some binbags in the shower, whcih would allow us to create the sounds of rain hitting the rubbish. We experimented with both the sound of the heavy shower on the bag, and also the slightly softer sound of water being poured through a sieve onto the bags (diagram, made by me ( i’m very talented at making bad diagrams) pictured below).
All in all, we are super happy with how the project is going. All we have to do now is edit, mix, and record a soundtrack. Very exciting!
I should mention that this project has been quite interesting for me. Due to my asthma, I’m not allowed to be in SAS, and my laptop cannot run Pro Tools. This means that I’ve been unable to really help with the recording and editing of this project. However, to still contribute, I have the majority of the planning and producing roles; making planning documents, doing risk assessments and booking equipment. I’ve also sourced a lot of the online sounds. As the producer, I’ve also set deadlines and goals each week to make sure we are getting work done efficiently and effectivly.
