From left to right is Theodosia Bartow Prevost Burr, Martha Washington, And Adrienne de Lafayette née Noialles. These women may have appeared to be a footnote in a biography but each women was a badass in their own right. Theodosia Bartow Prevost Burr played a huge role in the American Revolution despite her at the time lawful husband leanings. She also helped Aaron Burr with his speeches and was considered his “wisest” advisor. Martha Washington was left in charge of her husbands grand estate during the war. She also managed to keep a brave face by visiting camps despite threats of the enemy. Adrienne de Lafayette loved her husband so much she helped him escape France despite orders from her father and the king. She went to back to prison after her release from a Paris prison to be with her husband. Adrienne had two children pass on in childhood and still managed to keep a brave face. She reportedly got properties back after the government seized their properties. (She deserves her own post, she’s that amazing.) Adrienne supported her husbands ideas and encouraged his dreams despite her own insecurities. She also had a good relationship with her husband’s second mistress, which was rare in the late 18th to early 19th century.
Left to right is Diane-Adélaïde of Damas d’Antigny, Sally Hemings and Maria Reynolds née Lewis. Confirmed Mistresses to Gilbert du Motier Marquis de Lafayette, Thomas Jefferson and Alexander Hamilton.
