Deck Post Cracks or #checking is a natural occurrence in wood post. 🪵 Does it mean somethings wrong ❓️ No❗️ Are they unsafe , or do they make structures weak❓️ TYPICALLY 99.9 PERCENT OF THE TIME NO. they rarely cause any issues whatsoever. It's very rare for them to cause failure. In fact most all wooden deck post have some sort of cracks . Except for decks coated and protected with the @kongarmor #lifetimedeckarmor system. We close off our deck post cracks with SilverBack Epoxy. A absurdly tough epoxy filler with insane psi resistance. It fights to keep deck post cracks closed. And sealed off from water 💧 and precipitation 🌧 rain. Because what we do know that's bad about these cracks is , they allow water in. 💧 Normally the sun 🌞 dries that water out relatively quickly , and being vertical it travels with gravity. But over years , water exposure can cause mildew and mold growth deep in deck post cracks and cause failure. Caulk will only work for a short time , and when it fails , it leaves a gooey mess deep in the cracks that actually encourages the growth of mildew , algae , mold and Bacteria. You don't want that.
