Little talks about the future
----------
Short bonding one-shot where Uzi asks Tessa what type of drone she wants to be
---------
"Hey Tessa, I've been meaning to ask you something." Uzi lowered the paper in her hands. The pair were in the process of cataloging what full schematics the outpost was in possession of. So far it was a limited number. Mostly hard working types. Miners, sifters, those types of jobs. It wasn't too surprising given the kind of ore operation Copper-9 was. Tessa's gaze moved from the papers to Uzi, a curious look on her face. "What's on your mind?" A small smile forming on her face. Uzi gestured to the papers on the table, "I know we're a bit limited right now, but you must've seen all types of drones back on earth right?" Tessa's six eyes lit up at the question, the tail's head bobbing up and down in confirmation. "Sure have! You wouldn't believe it if I told you how meny types theh ahr!" Laughing with her words.
Uzi smiled in kind, she found it endearing when Tessa got passionate about the subject. She'd never met any humans, but she was able to tell that Tessa's love for drones was nearly unmatched. What else would possess her to fish so many out of the dumpster piles. Uzi leaned back in her chair and asked, "well, once I figure out how to get you out of there, you'll need a body. Soo I was wondering, is there any type you had in mind?" The question made Tessa pause. She hadn't really put much thought into 'getting out' or what that would entail. She'd gotten pretty used to the current situation. She looked over the schematics they had already gathered. None of them really spoke to her, it was also unlikely they'd find any of the ones she adored back on earth. Not unless they were being transported while the whole 'fall of humanity' thing happened.
Uzi watched her think, Tessa's expression changing wuth every thought. Leaning her chin against her hand. Briefly Uzi wondered if she even realized she did that. For a tail head, Tessa was pretty expressive. Uzi perked up briefly when she saw an excited expression. It deflated soon after, making Uzi sit up straight. "What is it?" Uzi asked with a grin. Tessa jumped, shaking her head and saying, "No no, it's not something you'd fine heah." A nervous tone fluttering over her words. Uzi put her hand on the table, the other held up, fingers curled and grabbing the air. "Tell me your secrets!" She pushed light heartedly. Tessa laughed, speaking through small bursts of giggling. "Okay okay! I'll spill." Raising her head with a shy expression.
"I want to be, a space drone!" It seemed relieving to actually say it. Now much giddier at the prospect. Uzi tilted her head, like many types, this was one she was unfamiliar with. Either way she rested back into a neutral position, crossing her arms and gesturing for Tessa to go on. Happily, Tessa did just that. "It's just my guess heah, but I think that's the type the othuhs were based on. Uh, N and V. That's what I first thought when I saw them anyhow. They were a workeh, an assembly type like all of you! But they worked in space. On lahrge ships called ahrcs! Ferried humans from planet to planet while the drones ran most of the operations!" That ever present love of robotics was once again peeking through. The way she described them made them sound pretty regal.
It made Uzi smile, how cool would it be to meet these space farring drones. Uzi put her hands together saying, "What the others were based on huh? You wanna look like N and V?" Tessa looked suddenly shy again. Nodding in silent agreement. Uzi chuckled and said, "I think we can make that happen then." Snapping and pointing at Tessa. The girl smiled back, looking towards the schematics. A look of nostalgia flooding her expression. After a few moments of watching her Uzi rolled her eyes and said, "Tess, it's all over your face. Spill it." Tessa jumped at her words, chuckling and speaking what was on her mind. "Well, back then, I had this dream. I found a catalogue. One for an ahrc mechanic." She looked up at all the papers and notes the two had compiled on the wall.
"It said...well, a lot. But most importantly, it said this. If you could prove your stuff in mechanics, they'd hire you! No college education needed. You'd be trained in repehr and maintenance of the space drones. I thought if I could repair drones, cataloge it." Tessa chuckled. Uzi finished her thought, "You could be hired as a mechanic and fly the stars. Am I getting that right?" Tessa nodded. "Only way I could do that was what the drones would considuh grave robbin now haha. But I couldn't let it go. It was my ticket out of that hell hole of a house. Course, I wanted to take them with me. Convince em to let me convert theh types. But, that neveh really happened." She sighed. Uzi reached up, patting Tessa's head.
"Well hey, once you're out of there? Isn't a place you can't go after that. Especially once we build you the sickest space drone body that any arc has ever seen." Nudging Tessa playfully with her fist. Tessa chuckled, "thanks Uzi. Gotta say though, I was surprised when I saw N. Those legs must make it hahduh to fly." Uzi tilted her head, "what?" Tessa looked back at her, metting her head tilt with one of her own. "You didn't know? Those peg legs ahr designed to be aero-dynamic. Because they fly in space ya know?" Uzi poked at the table and back at Tessa, "that, that isn't a gender thing?" Looking genuinely surprised. Tessa shook her head. Uzi suddenly stood up, "No wonder he can be so slow compared to V! Motherf-she nerfed him!" Suddenly barging out of her room, Tessa in tow. "N! GET IN HERE RIGHT NOW YOU'RE GETTING AN UPGRADE!"

Second suggestion from @dynamo300
(Couldn't fit kinger)
I also imagine that in an AU like this, you gotta think the crew has been in there for, a minute. As the days blur together it becomes hard to know how much time has actually passed. With the computer corroding somewhere off in the corner, being taken to somewhere like C-9 as it became outdated tech. Specifically the Caine AI in comparison to fully feeling drone AI. And 'drones' were the kind you'd see today, as in functioning robot bodies piloted by humans and not pure AI.
I think you'd see it most when you have conversations like
Tessa: thank goodness JC Jenson tech was useful in fixing up that old system. Couldn't have gotten you out otherwise.
Pomni: JC Jenson, that little tech start up that looked like they used AI images?
And then Tessa puts a hand on her shoulder.
Just little thoughts. Also the fact that all the humans are now out, even if in drone form. But atleast these forms they can customize to look however they want, even closer to their old human forms if they even remember them.
"I consideh you my best friend now"
"...the last girls who called me that are dead now"
"Well, I'm not goin anywheh"
"How do you know that?"
"Death already came for me, and it brought me heah. It'll have to fight me tooth and nail for it to pull me away again"
I wanna make so many doodles of these three being idiots. But at the same time I know that this is by far the least popular interpretation. To the point that I might be the only one who made these three a friend group-

Second request, Tessa first waking up as a Space Drone. Maybe with some others?
Happy birthday Tess
