Why is it that only young people seem to really talk about space? Like everyone on tumblr loves space, young children love it, everyone that has ever paid attention to it loves it. Yet it is hardly mentioned in politics and media. Like you will see the occasional "new galaxy found!" But no one is going into space anymore. The only humans to reach space were in the apollo missions ( and whatever other countries were participating at the time, but American education fails to acknowledge any others than the USSR) and why is that? Why has humanity lost it's fixation on space exploration? I understand that it is a very expensive and time consuming venture but it is also the gateway to infinite and endless wonder. We could solve many of the worlds problems if we stopped funding wars, useless politician salaries, making new iPhones, etc. And poured that money into the exploration of space. We could drastically improve the unemployment rate, by sending people to a colony and having them build it and maintain it, we could drop out dependence on fossil fuels and instead convert our society over to some abundant material in space. We could fix so many other problems, we could actually do something worthwhile and evolve as a species. However I think that's the problem, we haven't evolved that far yet and i am actually under the belief that we never will be. We constantly fight over trivial and pointless things, we over value that which does not matter, we make certain problems appear more urgent and rampant than they truely are. We value the instant gratification and futile grudges, and wars over nothing more than we value moving forward as a species. Humanity claims to be the most intelligent species on the planet, yet we are too blind and ignorant enough to see the necessity and sheer scope of what it would mean to no longer be confined to earth. As it is we are going to die a forgotten race that will fade into obscurity and cease to exist in 1,000 years if we're lucky. The final frontier is the only thing we all should be concerned about yet we are not. But maybe we can make progress and actually achieve this vital next step in evolution. Let's keep the spark alive and never stop talking about space. Let's shout it from every roof top and every ally, from the highest mountains to lowest valleys, from the most crowded cities to the forgotten ghost towns. Let's all go to space or die trying.
