Throwing the Gauntlet: Part 4

Penny stared up at the judge for a moment, eyebrows slowly drifting upwards.Deciding that Silas was just at the end of her rope instead of actually being giddy about unprotected exposure to the cold and empty darkness of space, the smaller woman gave her a comforting pat on the arm. 

Turning to Graves, her expression stiffened a bit and she looked the Justice square in the eyes. “I’ve seen enough broken families for one lifetime, Graves. I swear on the head of the queen that we are going to get you back to Mabel, and I will fight anybody at your office who tries to give you less than a month to spend with her after this.” 

Her words were direct and utterly confident, meant to be both calming and a little distracting. Like a battlefield amputation, she was slowly easing the pieces together as she distracted the panicking Justice. 

She scooted Silas between them as she spoke, gently grabbing ahold of Graves’s belt and pinning the judge in place. For the purposes of hurling themselves into space, the size difference between them worked out perfectly. Graves was their anchor, and Penny could keep the three of them fastened together while being short enough for Silas to deploy the life raft over her head. 

“We’re gonna be just fine,” she said to them both. A quick interaction with her cyberoptic interface cued the fast-and-dirty ignitor she’d wired into the pod interface. The beeping countdown to launch the Judge, Justice and Executioner sandwich into the void began in earnest.

ok ok so random notes of that weird Shep/Garrus/Thane au so far

Earthborn Shep, Garrus who was recruited into being a specter, Thane who was never an assassin but ended up as a specter. ALL THE SPECTERS. no reapers. eyyy

Somehow they all met (maybe turned specter at same time? bby newbies) and somehow ended up teaming up on cases 90% of the time. (kinda like the idea of mentor Thane being seduced by newbies Shep and Garrus)

OT3 WAS ONE DAY BORN

retired at like, Thane’s 40′s, Garrus and Shep in their mid 30′s. They all decide to form a mercenary gang so they can help ppl and also make money. Shepard’s Crook??? ? Normandy?? ?  I dunno even what they would name the gang but Shep is the leader, Thane and Garrus second in commands because why not

Thane one day wakes up and decides he wants a BABY RIGHT NOW GOSH DANG IT

Luckily for them, krogan stuff was recently cured. BABIES. SO MANY. They adopt bby Grunt

bby Grunt so cute. so precious. Thane too scared of doing wrong, Shep got no idea what the heck to do, Garrus turns out to be the most capable parent at first

Thane becomes stay at ship dad. Miranda drops off her sister Oriana for safe keeping; in return, Oriana becomes Grunt’s teacher. Miranda becomes the cool aunt. Mordin is the really weird uncle who keeps giving Grunt weird lollypops. Grunt eat them, stick, wrapper and all. He once ate Mordin’s favorite lamp.

Grunt is not allowed near Joker. Grunt thinks Joker is a normal screen who talks with him, he loves Joker. Joker is the BEST (even if he is a tv screen/ipad screen and Grunt accidentally hugs said screen to bits more than once)

Grunt doesn’t know how to feel when he finds out Joker, his bestie, his favorite screen person, is REAL.

whenever bby Grunt was a fussy baby, the only way to make him fall asleep was for Thane to sit down with him in his lap, next to Tali as she works and rambles while fixing machines. awww snoozing bby Grunt.

Everyone on the ship wears knee protection because Grunt sometimes gets too excited and headbumps said knees and he may or may not have accidentally broken a few knee caps. 

Kolyat does not like his little brother at first. This might be because he was one of the first knee cap victims. (it’s ok, they bond in the future. Kolyat teaches Grunt a lot of nasty words. Thane doesn’t know how to feel) 

Liara is recruited to become the second teacher for Grunt. Liara and Tali fall in love and are very awkward about it. 

Once a rival gang tried to invade the ship when Shep and Garrus and most of the team was away- but they interrupted Grunt’s naptime. And then they found out Thane is stay at ship dad by CHOICE, thank u very much, and he kicked a lot of ass that day.

Me: imagine an au of Shep/Garrus/Thane as retired specters who start a merc band and also adopt bby krogan Grunt.
