Hey! I was reading media circus again and I was just thinking about how much thought you may have put into who got who on the quiz. I feel like Helena getting Dylan makes so much sense in a way that I have trouble articulating. Same with Milchick getting Helena and Burving both getting Irving.
Hi! Omg I'm so glad you brought this up because I actually did put a lot of thought into it. Basically I was thinking of how I coded the quiz and using that knowledge to predict which answers they would choose if they were taking it. The reason Helena got Dylan is because I think she would choose answers that are in line with her insecurity around personal connection and her fear of abandonment. The quiz is coded to give the Dylan answer to her responses because the fictional "creators" of this quiz in the Media Circus-verse would only know limited information about Dylan based on news stories, his statements to the press, etc. I'm imagining innie Dylan addressing the town of Kier when they hijacked the news, talking about how much he wishes he could live life on the outside with his family, and how painful it is that he can't see them. Based on that I think the quiz creators would conclude that Dylan feels deeply protective of his friends and family, but is simultaneously insecure about his relationships. Hence, answers suggesting personal insecurity combined with love would lead to a Dylan result.
Milchick got Helena because I think his answers would suggest an inner conflict/existential crisis as he reconsiders his place in the world after leaving Lumon. You can imagine how this would align with the Media Circus-verse's image of Helena as well.
And Burt and Irving both got Irving because they are the most "settled" and mature in their emotions out of everyone at this point in the story. The Media Circus quiz creators know the least about Irving (since he wouldn't have been present for the innie rebellion and would have just been mentioned in statements by Helly/Dylan/Mark), so they would have programmed the quiz to give the Irving answer to those with more "stability" behind their responses, if that makes sense?
So that was the process! The quiz was an interesting challenge because since it's in-universe, the quiz creators became sort of invisible characters in their own right. So I had to consider what their perspective would be when writing the questions/results. I'm so glad everyone's results rang true for you!
