〉〉 Here's a quick premise: Strange events have been taking place in the small town of Leadville and a suspicious corporation called Murkoff has one too many links to these occurrences for it to be just a coincidence. Miles, Blake, and the new kid on the block, Waylon, decide to investigate the mystery, soon finding themselves entangled in the horrific drama unfolding in their hometown.

〉〉 Disclaimer: This is obviously a fan project. The Outlast brand, logo, and characters belong to Red Barrels. I also used a screenshot from Paratopic (AWESOME indie game if you're into the PS1 Silent Hill kind of vibe) for the background of the title card, so rights for the background go to them. Miles is one of the 3 kids our agents found snooping around the facilities (See case #0087610). He doesn't seem to have much in the likes of friends or family. That said, he's definitely over-protective of the few people he holds close.

Same old story of a troubled youth - comes from a low-income, single parent household with less than stellar supervision. Mom's a wreck and dad's been out of the picture for most of the kid's life.

Miles spends a lot of time at the Langermann residence where his childhood friend, Blake, lives. Lucky for him, the Langermanns seem to have taken Miles under their wing by offering him dinner and a place to stay if he ever needs it - typical Catholic family. Although the two friends go to separate schools, they always meet up afterwards to hang out and make homemade documentaries with Blake's Handycam.

Despite coming from a relatively Agnostic background, the kid's particularly spiteful toward the Catholic church after Blake confided in him about some kind of traumatic secret that occurred within his Catholic school.

As far as personality goes, he's a little shit with attitude. He may seem pretty standoffish and show blatant disrespect to authority, but after careful observation, he's surprisingly perceptive at reading people. Basically, if he doesn't like you, he'll let you know it. Despite his academic failings, he's a sharp kid and a tactical smartass. I peg him as a hyperactive, courageous, willful, and confident boy. But on the flipside, he's also selfish, hot-headed, impulsive, and impatient.

Additional information: he carries a pen and pocket notebook everywhere he goes, is obsessed with monsters and the paranormal, is a bit of a conspiracy theorist, and he's trying to save up money to visit Washington state where he can reunite with his dad.

From an outsider's perspective, Blake Langermann is pretty put-together for a 12-year-old kid. He's a realist but enjoys the escapism Miles and Waylon provide from his otherwise routine life. He attends a Catholic school while the other boys go to public school. Despite having his own circle of friends within his field hockey team, his closest friends are waiting for him after school. He does decently in academics due to being disciplined enough to spend his time studying; however, Blake manages to make the time to join Miles in his exposé schemes, ready to film the action with his dad's "borrowed" Handycam.

Blake comes from a supportive and understanding Catholic household that consists of two parents, Tim and Teresa, and a younger sister named Grace. They give off such a warm "our home is your home" vibe with their guests that Blake's childhood friend, Miles, has practically lived there on and off since they were kids.

As easygoing as Blake appears, further investigation reveals that he's noticeably shaken up about something that happened to him in the past. After some digging, I discovered that a little girl around Blake's age offed herself at his school a year ago. She even left a pitiful suicide note passively accusing Blake of breaking her heart - how unfortunate. Despite having mandated check-ins with his school counselor for the remainder of the semester, it seems that Miles is Blake's only emotional confidante concerning the fiasco.

Other than that ugly mar to his name, he's just a typical kid. He likes rock music, has a dry sense of humor, always wears a wristwatch, is supposed to be wearing glasses but refuses to, and has a little crush on his classmate, Lynn Maldonado. Not much else to say.

Talk about your wallflowers.

Waylon's new to Leadville after his family's move from Minnesota. He's somewhat of a shy kid, but that may be due to the fact that he's new to the area.

He has 3 older half siblings, Peter, Geoffrey, and Cynthia. He also lives with his father and stepmother, David and Hana.

Waylon's a child born out of wedlock from his father having an affair with a woman named Winona Austin. Winona and Waylon used to go to restaurants for lunch on Sundays, but she moved out to Texas with her new husband to start her own family when Waylon was 9. The two chat over the phone every now and then, but they haven't seen each other in years.

There's definitely tension in this household. Mom and dad have had a pretty loveless relationship after the affair and Waylon is more or less the black sheep of the family. He's put under a lot of pressure to do well in school and he equates his success with how much his parents love him... Kind of sad really.

After a scuffle with a bully, Waylon has recently made friends with Miles Upshur, a kid defending Waylon from harm. Since then, Miles and his other new friend, Blake Langermann, have helped Waylon come out of his shell and have even become somewhat bad influences by inspiring Waylon to rebel against his parents' strict regime (ie. sneaking out to be with his friends).

Some additional information: Waylon plays the trombone and is a massive computer geek who also likes playing video games when his parents are away.

His personality is modest, meticulous, reliable, practical, and analytical. However he can also get caught up in his own thoughts. He worries, and is overcritical of himself, while being mostly tolerant of others.

I'm more than a little obsessed with the original trilogy and I think Toys for Bob did a fantastic job with the remake. And yet... I still yearn for those simplistic, low polygonal character designs of old. Y'know?

Spyro: Ripto's Rage fan art - A monk (or yellow colossi) from the "Colossus" realm. I didn't really gell with the Reignited redesign of these guys. I always imagined them as pig-men, not hippos... or whatever they were supposed to be 🤔 🤷‍♀️

Anyway. Wanted to try my hand at using the pen tool again and I think the end result looks pretty polished 👍

Might make these Spyro NPC fanarts into a series. We'll see :)
