My spidersona, dubbed 'Space-Spider' for now. Has concrete design! He's based on retro British sci-fi and species of blue tarantula (p metallica, c spp electric blue)
I saw this art by @turrondeluxe yesterday and went into hyperfocus. This wasn't supposed to be a whole ass thing with backgrounds and full shading but oh well
I'm soooo curious to hear more about your version of black widow and dj saturday nite. What does she do when she quits the force how does she go into dj-ing how do they reunite
DJ Saturday Nite (Saturn) had always wanted to do music, but for a long time she wasn’t sure if she’d succeed.
After studying abroad in France, she decided to stay there to make a new life. She applied to work at the local police department because of the pay.
——————————
Black Widow (Veuve Noire) was the daughter of a very skilled criminal. Her father was able to get past any security with his disguises and they moved a lot due to his name being on several wanted lists.
Eventually, her father passed away a few months after the two had moved to France. By now, Veuve was just as good at crime as her dad was. Although her methods were different from his.
She’d commit a crime, hide away for a few months, move, and then disguise herself as someone else for a while before making another move. It wasn’t hard for her to go undetected due to her charisma.
In France she decided she’d do several heists by working closely with the police force. All she had to do was apply for a position and slowly climb up the ranks to chief detective.
——————————
Saturn joins the department just a few weeks after Veuve. The two first meet being seated in cubicles next to one another.
Veuve isn’t very chatty, only talking when she needs to. The less she speaks, the more hidden her true identity is. Although the slightly nervous rookie at the next desk over is asking so many questions, she might as well just shout to the whole department that she’s the Black Widow.
The rookie Saturn wasn’t actually very good with this kind of work. They had her arranging files and answering emails. It seemed simple enough, but the workload put on her got stressful quick.
She only returned to the department to see Veuve. Her jet black hair and the way her voice was as smooth as butter was mesmerizing. Sometimes she’d ask her questions just to hear her talk.
Over time, the two would have small chats. Those small chats turned to talking at break time. The break time talks turned into exchanging phone numbers. Phone numbers turned into meeting up at cafes. Eventually the two hung out on a regular basis.
Veuve was intrigued by Saturn in her own way. The same girl who was constantly stressed at work would turn into the most passionate person she had ever met when they hung out. Saturn would talk about her music and her inspirations. Sometimes at the jazz cafe she would move her fingers as if she was the one playing the trumpet. It was cute.
——————————
Unfortunately nothing lasts forever.
Veuve was climbing higher and higher in the ranks and was now just a few days away from moving into the chief detective’s office. Once she was there, that’s when her spree as Black Widow would begin.
Saturn, however, had other plans.
Veuve entered the office one morning to see Saturn putting everything on her desk into a box. She hadn’t told anyone she was leaving. She was just going to vanish.
She told Veuve that she was done pretending. Being a “normal person” wasn’t what she wanted to do. She wasn’t good at it. She was good at music. So, she was packing up and moving away. Somewhere.
Veuve knew this was her only chance. The two had been friends for so long, it was only right that she was honest.
That night, she invited Saturn over for dinner. She had never invited her to her house. It was a nice, cozy cottage in the countryside.
Removing the rug in the living room revealed a door to the basement.
Saturn couldn’t believe it. The room was littered with stolen artifacts and priceless works of art. It was silent.
“I’m Black Widow.”
Veuve’s voice had never done this before. She was choking up.
Saturn ran out of the house, and it was the last time the two ever spoke. At least for a long time.
——————————
After about a decade, Saturn was now DJ Saturday Nite. She was living her dream.
In the back of her head sat the memory of Veuve. Despite what happened that night, the vision of her jet black hair and the small fragments she could remember from her voice still remained. She still felt the same way she did all those years ago.
Black Widow was locked away in a high security prison. She never got visitors. She had nobody close enough to her that would want to visit. The person that she had hated her now. She’d spend hours remembering her conversations with Saturn. Sometimes she’d silently mouth the words as if she was there with her again.
One day, reluctantly, she visited her. Her hair wasn’t relaxed anymore it was curly and free. She wore a vibrant, neon disco outfit with a large pair of headphones around her neck. This was someone completely new, but Veuve knew that a small part of her was still Saturn.
It was quiet. Just like that night.
“I had so much I wanted to say to you.” Saturn said, “But now I’m here. I’m here and I don’t know what to tell you.”
Two words swirled around in the Black Widow’s head.
“I’m sorry”
She repeated it over and over in her mind, but on the outside she was frozen.
An officer came in to escort Saturn out.
“We could’ve been something great.” Were her last words before leaving.
That night was the first and only night that anyone got to hear the Black Widow cry.
——————————
That’s all (for now 😈) !
Perhaps they’ll meet again in a much more dramatic circumstance.
Thank you so much for the ask! It’s always so nice to see people interested in my little stories. I wasn’t expecting to get into the poptropica fandom but I’m glad I did 😋
