Elon Musk reportedly secured a $1 billion loan from SpaceX, the aerospace company he oversees, at the same time he was finalizing the acquisition of Twitter, which has since been rebranded as X, for a total of $44 billion, according to a Wall Street Journal report.The loan was sanctioned by SpaceX in October, with Musk drawing the full amount down during that same month, as revealed in documents cited by the report. Musk formally took ownership of Twitter in October.The report further outlines that Musk has previously utilized arrangements with banks to borrow funds against his holdings in his various companies, including Tesla. In this case, SpaceX, a privately held entity, acted as the lender. It notes that the purchase of Twitter added to Musk's complex financial landscape.As of March, Musk holds a 42% stake in SpaceX and possesses nearly 79% of its voting power, according to a filing with the Federal Communications Commission. SpaceX had approximately $4.7 billion in cash and securities at the conclusion of the previous year, as indicated by the report's documents.Both SpaceX and X have not yet responded to Reuters' request for comment on this matter.In 2022, Musk made substantial sales of his Tesla shares, both before and after the Twitter acquisition, totaling around $40 billion. This move had raised concerns among investors in the electric vehicle manufacturer.In April 2023, Tesla disclosed that it had implemented stricter rules regarding Musk's use of his company stake for borrowing money, as reported by the WSJ.Elon Musk is not only associated with Tesla and X (formerly Twitter) but also serves as a co-founder of Neuralink, a startup focused on brain-chip technology.
