ger: mein zweites modell: mehr fläche, mehr zeugs, das auf flächen geklebt wird, mehr übersicht. aber interessant: der faktor arbeitszeit ist bloß unterproportional mit der größer werdenden fläche gestiegen, sprich höhere produktivität. oder eher höherer wurschtigkeitsfaktor? ich weiß es nicht...

eng: the second model i made. the ingredients were the same, but the dimensions have changed. the cardboard extended, and with it the amount of buildings to be put on it accurately. interestingly enough, my partner and i haven’t spent much longer on creating this model than some months ago on creating the first one. i can’t defintely say if it’s due to a higher productivity or just because of our idc-mood getting more influental.

On the Prowl for  Martini Tables

We are always on the search for small and interesting end tables for our projects.  Fortunately there was no shortage of these tables at this past High Point market!  These lightweight tables allow our clients to customize their spaces and move things around as they see fit.  And customization is always a good thing.

Design Principle #3 of Designing for Wellness:  Spatial Planning.

In this month's newsletter, we're discussing the third installment of our six design principles: Spatial Planning.

A client recently asked us to re-design their large sized family room. Seating in the current layout consisted of only a sectional and a recliner.   In our questionnaire we uncovered the fact that the wife usually found herself reading or relaxing in the adjoining room…while her husband and three kids would congregate in the family room in front of the TV. Although their family room is fairly large, there really wasn’t a place for her. We decided to change that by creating a “territory”  that would become her own personal space where she could still connect with her family.  

Research proves that “all humans are territorial as well as social and having a territory at home is important for our mental well-being"(Smith, 1994).

Here are two examples of nooks that we’ve created in the past:

das hier ist das finale stadium meines modells eines ausschnitts der stadt wien. schön und gut, aber warum um alles in der welt sollte sich ein 19-jähriger knabe (plus partner) freiwillig für fünf nachmittage (die auch schon mal zu abenden wurden) jeweils stundenlang in eine kammer sperren und in dieser zeit kugerl auf zahnstocher respektive styrodur auf zwei schichten kartonagen und einer schaumstoffplatte kleben und dabei auch noch nicht ganz unschädliche dämpfe heiß geschnittenen styrodurs ertragen, fragt sich die geneigte leserin / der geneigte leser. antwort: nun ja, aus freien stücken ist dieses - ähm, nennen wir es “meisterwerk”  - nicht wirklich entstanden. es ist viel mehr teil der leistungsbeurteilung im rahmen einer lehrveranstaltung des raumplanungsstudiums. war langwierig, hat aber spaß gemacht :)

cardbords, cotton beads, toothpicks and styrofoam / styrodure / i-don’t-know-the-translation-for-these-white-thingies-which-should-represent-buildings-and-i’m-unwilling-to-use-my-dictionary. these are the ingredients of this model i made for a couse in spacial planning. it shows a 250 x 250 m part of vienna (for the exact location see below) and it took me (and my partner) ca five afternoons full of modelling and inhaling more or less poisonous vapours of these unspeakable styro- ... you know what i mean. but finally it is finished.

maße / dimensions: 25x25cm; maßstab / scale: 1:1000 (sprich 250x250m in realität / in reality) gebiet/location: “wilhelminenspital” und schrebergartensiedlungen südlich davon; westlichstes stück des flötzersteigs / western part of “flötzersteig” (1160 ottakring, wien)
