Österreichische Postsparkasse (Austrian Post Savings Bank) (Otto Wagner, 1904-1912, Georg Coch-Platz 2, 1010 Wien)

IMHO, the most amazing building by Otto Wagner. Just look at the ticket hall! And the stone facade with those rivets! And the ventilation tubes which look like guards keeping a close watch on your money! And the glass ceiling! And the glass floor! Okay I stop now, promise.

Wiener Börse (Vienna Stock Exchange) (Theophil von Hansen, 1874-1877, Börseplatz, 1010 Wien)

Nowadays, the Börse isn’t in this building anymore. It is used as office rooms instead. The building wasn’t even demolished during WWII but in the 1950 fire broke out and the hall burnt down. That’s why the facades in the inner courtyard look more modern.

Headquaters of the former “k.k. privilegierte Österreichische Länderbank” (Otto Wagner, 1883-1884, Hohenstaufengasse 3, 1010 Wien)

remarkable features are the glass ceilings above the entrance hall (with Austria, the personification of the former empire) and the ticket hall.

oh, and in the first picture you can see a restaurant called “Griechenbeisl”. It’s Vienna’s oldest restaurant and the place where Marx Augustin performed first (”Hier sang sein Lied zum 1. Mal der liebe Augustin”)
