My LARP persona is going to die soon, and the events leading up to her death will be heartbreaking for her. Probably even more heartbreaking, though, will be how the people she cares about deal - or not - with it. And of course, if it’s heartbreaking, I’ve gotta write something about it!!
She stood in what seemed to be a void. Faint purple provided more detail to the setting, allowing her to somewhat make out the difference between the ground and whatever was above it. The details we few, however, and she appropriately felt like she was in the middle on nowhere.
A sweet scent drifted over to her, surrounding her, making her heart ache hollowly. She closed her eyes, trying to keep calm despite her throat wanting to cry out - in longing or in anger, she wasn’t certain. The scent didn’t waver, neither strengthening or fading. Opening her eyes again after a few moments, she found her surroundings to be greener. Wisps of what appeared to be viridian mist encircled her.
"Trust…" a voice whispered; detached, alien, foreboding… To anyone but her. "Trust… No one…"
She resisted the urge to cry, biting down hard on her bottom lip. The mist began to swirl around her more quickly, causing her curly hair to wave around as though she were caught in a strong autumn breeze in the waking world.
"No one… Trust no one… Lila…"
"Why?" she croaked at last, though the word was more a test of how steady she could keep her voice. "Why can’t I? Can I trust you?"
The mist slowed around her, then it all surged to a spot directly in front of her. From the wisps appeared a familiar figure, her steps seeming to be lighter than the mist she had come from. Her expression was calm, with an air of curiousness that she knew well; her hands were open, palms up. But something seemed off about her. Her eyes had been brown before, hadn’t they? Now, they were the same viridian as the mist had been. Not just the irises: the whole eye, in fact, was green, and small green wafts escaped them when she blinked.
She stopped a pace or two away from her. “Of course you can,” she said.
The Kinto stood frozen where she was, her mind in a flurry. This was the first time she’d seen her face at all since that night, and truth be told, she was stunned. She wanted to scream, cry, beg, take her in her arms; all at once. “Trust…” the human girl whispered again, smiling before tipping her head down. “Trust me…” Still Lila stayed where she was.
In the second that she hesitated, everything began to happen. Idina’s head snapped back up, her eyes wide and focused right on the caribou. “Trust,” she repeated, her tone more urgent. The purple and black around the pair began to blur together, their environment moving as the green mist had. “Trust!” Green smoke wafted from the blonde’s eyes as the world spun. Flying colours swirled around her, and she squeezed her eyes shut just as another spout of green erupted from the girl’s neck—
When they shot open again, she was greeted by the cold. Cold and dark surroundings, lit up by cold moonlight. A cold bed on either side of her.
She tossed her pillow at the wall, turned over, and curled in on herself.
