In early autumn the Cosmos bipinnatus (cosmea, Mexican aster, Spanish needles) is producing a continuous display of usually white or pink flowers with wide outer rays surrounding a central disc of tightly clustered, inner disc florets. This tall, bushy annual has very finely divided leaves, and is raised from seed usually germinated and grown on in a glasshouse then being planted out after the danger of frost has passed.

Weed stickers - "hitch-hiking" #plants like #Spanishneedles or #beggarticks aren't that bad...they do display attractive #foliage and small white #flowers that entice #pollinators. That being said, once the #blooms are gone, the #plant produces needle-like #seeds that cling to nearly everything they come into contact with, making them unwelcome #weeds as they spread into unwanted areas.
