REVIEW: Can Spark.com Light Your Spark?
When you have some chemistry with another person, you may refer to it as a “spark.” That’s why Spark.com’s name is so appropriate. The dating service offers you a chance to find that spark in one of many different profiles. Its tagline is “A fun site for serious daters,” which is a fairly accurate description of the website. But, is Spark.com really what you need to find love? We’ll let you know in this Spark.com review.
Getting Started
Unlike many other dating websites out there, Spark.com actually allows you to browse through profiles without having to sign up for anything. In fact, it’s the most prominent option on their homepage. You can search through profiles to decide if you want to create a profile of your own. Starting a profile is easy on Spark.com. You will be asked a series of very basic questions (location, username, age, etc.). Once you’ve finished with the basic questions, you’ll be taken to a page that gives you three options:

In most cases, you’ll want to continue building you profile to ensure that you have the best chance of attracting visitors. Spark.com also makes editing you profile easy. You will see your profile as other people see it, except you will also be given the option to edit everything. You can fill in information about yourself ranging from your physical appearance to what you want in a significant other.
There are also numerous essay questions that allow you to expound on your personality, daily Q & As, and a compatibility test. All of this certainly helps you indicate your level of seriousness as well as your compatibility with other members.
Using the Site
Once you’ve filled out your profile, you can start searching through matches on Spark.com. The layout of the website is exceedingly easy to use. There is a top toolbar with several tabs on the left side. These tabs include:

Your Profile
The Matches tab is where most people will check first. This is a list of people in your area who are most compatible with your profile. There is also a “Secret Admirer” option in the Matches tab that allows you to view basic information about certain profiles and decide if you are a “secret admirer.” The other person will play the Secret Admirer game and if they also decide to be your secret admirer, then you will be able to communicate with them.
The search function on Spark.com is also easy. You can perform an advanced search or a quick search to find potential matches. You can also just search through profiles as a photo gallery. In the “Hot Lists” section of the site, you can see who has looked at your profile and which profiles you have viewed. The “Community” section includes chatrooms, message boards, and the ability to send “E-cards” to other members.
Price
Of course, most of the messaging capabilities on the website are only available if you have a subscription. There is currently only one option if you’re looking to subscribe to the Spark.com service. The price is $24.99 per month, which will recur every month until you cancel the subscription. The problem with the price is that there just isn’t a large swath of members on the website. In fact, Spark.com will show you how many members are currently online, and that number will almost never break 1,000.
That beings said, access to chatrooms and message boards can be fun, and there’s always a chance that your true match will be on Spark.com instead of a more heavily populated dating website.

Final Verdict
While Spark.com clearly doesn’t have a ton of members, it is still a pretty functional site with quite a few features. Most dating websites don’t have compatibility tests and thorough profiles like Spark. That being said, building your profile on this site could all be a moot point if you can’t find anyone else to communicate with. Although the community may be small, there is a chance that you could find love on Spark.com. That’s why we give it 7 stars out of 10.
