Warm Holidays With a Sparkle Princess Hat

Under the sun of Mithra, I rejoice in sharing a moment of warmth. I’d like to hearken all the magic and cozy moments that the holiday season entails.

I’ve spent the weekend with Van, and Henry, in Ocean Grove and have been constantly listening to carols in all variations: electronic and synthesized, jazzified, traditional, pop, disco, Phil Spector-produced, soulful, music box and carillon…throwing in the first three music box-like LPs of Kraftwerk’s recent The Catalogue 3-D for good measure as we drove here in Helmut, Henry’s VW.

The holidays, as a mini model of the rest of the days, are largely about mise-en-scène. I remember this as I gaze in a hypnotic trance at the staircase of Van’s house, simply decorated with a garland of electric lights from the late 1920s. The music kicks in, and the comforting hum of furnace below….

Incidentally, we watched on the eve of the eve the classic 1945 film Christmas in Connecticut, in which Barbara Stanwyck creates through writing a magazine column the image of the perfect housewife…a fantasy, made-up notion which she actualizes in the end by sheer focus…with the external elements aligning, following her will.

Which reminds me that everything is a matter of intention. And so I intend, as a model for winter, I put forth this ideal for wellness: a custom knit hat by Sparkle Princess, knitted dearly for me with my likings in mind, and a vintage Hudson’s Bay blanket.
