Hey young blood
Doesn't it feel like our time is running out?
I'm gonna change you like a remix
Then I'll raise you like a phoenix
Wearing our vintage misery
No, I think it looked a little better on me
I'm gonna change you like a remix
Then I'll raise you like a phoenix
Bruce was calling bullshit on the whole thing. High School, specifically SHIELD High was just one big day care center for the future chaos that was coming, but at least the labs were nice and he had managed to make friends who he’d stand with through the oncoming rising tide. Dropping his books on the counter he sat across from Darcy in the library during lunch. She seemed to be in there a lot recently studying or messing around on her laptop.
He'd been trying to be more optimistic lately. Jen's sudden transformation and quick adjustment to the gamma lifestyle as well as his own voluntary Hulk-out in Canada giving him hope that while he might not be able to control the Hulk they could learn to work together. It was a different take on an old tune, like a remix or a rebirth. He was trying to see things differently now and not let what happened to him control his life.
“I give up.” he said, “I don’t think my teachers liked my self exile in the frozen Canadian tundra for the protection of everyone on campus excuse for all my absences.” he said in his own unique brand of droll self-mockery. “They aren’t being lenient with my make up work at all.”
“Hello stranger. Have you eaten today?” she asked from behind her screen.
Bruce opened his mouth to lie and say yes and that he wasn’t a child and could look after himself just fine; but then his stomach decided to growl and answer for him.
“What I thought.” she said smirking pulling two sandwiches from her bag and handing one to him and returning to her work.
He took a bite opening his physics book to go over the four chapters the class had managed to cover in the month he’d been gone. He got through half a chapter before getting side tracked and jotting down a few notes to review in more detail later once he had a chance to run comparative experiments between his and Jen’s blood samples. A wad of paper landed in front of him and he stared up at Darcy who was glaring at him in the most loving way possible, if such a feat were even capable.
“School then lab work.” she said a slight reprimanding tone in her voice but a smile on her face. Bruce laughed shoving his lab notes aside and re-opening his physics book .It was nice to know whatever happened some things never changed, oncoming chaos or not.
We walk past a dead end street
Atop the hill so we can be alone.
Under the moon it's beautiful.
The stars clear the black of night when I’m with you.
And nervously I take your hands
and promise you I'll take you for a ride...
"... and someday we'll have it all, you and me, we're gonna be stars"
We’ll runaway from everything you hate,
Runaway to everything you've wanted
Already there were whispers of dissent. Charles could hear them in that special spot between reality and disbelief: too smart … that girl … learn her place. Darcy could never be safe here, and that Charles could see that at all was reason enough for him to leave.
