The dumbest and the most amazing idea just came to me.
A story called Kirby: Into the Kirbyverse.
It's about Kirby going through different universes like the Clashverse, the Novelverse, the Animeverse and the many Mangaverses (Manmaru Nikki, Pupupu Hero, Moretsu Pupupu Hour, etc).
One thing I hope a future Kirby game touches on are galactic civilizations because while we do travel to space and explore planets many times in the series, we rarely go any deeper than that.
The future game could be about Kirby and his friends exploring the galaxy (because they have to stop some planet-conquering empire or something) and encounter very unique cultures in every planet they visit. Showing that there's an entire galactic community outside of Popstar.
So I was wandering in pixiv looking at Japanese Kirby fanart when I stumbled upon a couple fan mangas (ずっと、キミをみていると by ちくわの神 and Aster! by 鵡) about Kirby's 34th Anniversary. Both are really good and I highly recommend checking them out before or after reading this ramble I've written on a whim.
And boy did they made me cry for Popopo.
For those who don't know, Kirby's Dream Land was originally called Popopo of the Spring Breeze until it got changed in order to fill Nintendo's demand in exchange to get the game published. And you can guess from that that Popopo in these mangas is very angst about Kirby's success over him and worries that he will be forgotten by everyone.
Here's some of the dialogue that hit me the most. I ran them through a translator but I think they're close to what they meant.
Popopo: …I, I envied Kirby. I’d been here all alone for so long, and I wanted a friend. I wanted someone to remember me. I wanted to be Kirby. I was supposed to be him. But I just couldn’t do it. Because I’m Popopo.
Popopo: Someday, my friends will forget me and never come back.
And everyone will say they love Kirby, that he’s their friend,
Leaving me behind to follow you all!
They’ll be drawn to him… to Kirby of the Stars.
At the end of the day though, it ends on a hopeful note.
Dedede: I couldn't help him… He'll be alone again.
Kirby: I'm sure it'll be okay. I feel like I've been friends with Popopo for a very long time.*
Dedede: Kirby...
Kirby: I know that's probably not true, but that's how it feels. Don't you think so too, King? Actually, we might have met Popopo a long time ago!
*Most likely a reference to the phrase by Popopo in a piece of Twinkle☆Popo advertising material: 「君を見ていると、ずっと昔からおともだちだった気がするよ。」 ("Looking at you, I feel like we've been friends for a long time.") - Source
Kirby: I've got a great idea!!!!!
Narrator: This is Dream Land, a country so peaceful it’s almost unbelievable. And today is Kirby and King Dedede's birthday - even more so than usual.
Crowd: Happy Birthday to you!
Narrator: And so, it turned out to be a peaceful day.
Note on the cupcake: Friend Popopo.
Kirby: …Popopo, it's okay! I'll always be Popopo's friend! Dedede and everyone else love Popopo too!
Popopo: Kirby...
Void: That's right! Popopo is the one being celebrated, too.
Popopo: Huh? Me too?
I have a Kirby game idea that pops up from time to time and it's called Popstar at War.
It's a strategy game that takes place in an alternate timeline where Kirby failed to stop the Halberd, but instead of an easy victory that Meta Knight expected, the Dream Landers continue fighting against his army and the war spreads throughout Popstar.
There are two factions: The Meta-Knights and the Kingdom of Dream Land.
If the war goes on for too long, a third faction (it could either be Dark Matter or the Haltmann Works Company) will invade Popstar to fight both factions. The Meta-Knights and the Kingdom of Dream Land can either work together and form a United Front or continue fighting eachother.
There are four endings to the game: The Dream Land Ending, the Meta-Knights Ending, the United Front Ending or Popstar Invaded Ending.
