It's been a while since I've done a Moretsu Pupupu Hour chapter, so I decided to translate the very first chapter of it for fun. As you'd expect of an introduction to a Kirby manga, it involves a lot of eating. Less expectedly, it features a lot of the Squeaks! Witness the marriage of these two concepts by reading the full chapter at the following links:
Kirby's treasure hunt continues, but Parallel Susie reveals her true colors and sends a robot to fend them off while she claims the Star Gear for herself. Meta Knight and Daroach must find a way to deal with this menacing machine and ascertain Parallel Susie's true goal, both easier said than done! Read the full chapter at the following links:

You may get asked this a lot, so please excuse my ignorance - but how do you go about constructing character expressions and body language and such? Thanks!
Besides The Basics (construction of heads and skulls and muscles and skeletons and how they move), I’ll go over some things I’ve been trying to work on myself lately:
1. Treat expressions as a single gesture of the face/head, as opposed to a head and then individual features dumped on a plate and arranged into an expression.
First, just get down the big shapes of your expression, just like you would for a pose.
So say I wanna do a low angle angry pose. I know the features are gonna be all mashed down at the bottom because of perspective.
Scribble it down
start to put on features
fix stuff
put on more stuff
fix stuff again
erasing and flipping and stuff a whole bunch until you are happy with it or stop caring
Whole head is a gesture!
2. Just like a facial expression, jot down where the important parts of an entire pose goes first. You can force the rest of the body to fit the pose.
So here I knew I wanted the shoulders tilted a certain direction, and te hand to be in that particular position in front of her face.
That’s the simplest explanation I got. Don’t be afraid to push and pull faces and bodies around! Worry about being “on model” last!
Probably one the most compelling issue to deal with when drawing characters. There’s clear pros and cons to both approach. The key, IMO, is to straddle the line between both. Give appeal and energy through the use of gesture, but always give hints of structure, weight and solidity to make the character feel like it lives in an environment. I do a quick, dynamic gesture first, then I go back in and add some structure on a second pass. In a rush, I’ll focus the structure pass on faces, hands and feet (feet: their position on the ground to give weight and/or balance to the pose.) -Norm @grizandnorm #tuesdaytips #100tuesdaytips #100tuesdaytipsbook #structuregesture #whynotboth
More Dreamy Gear! More! The intrepid treasure hunters have gotten their hands on the Star Gear, supposedly what's needed to make the Dreamy Clock grant wishes. And if you so choose, you can read my translation the previous chapter of the Dreamy Gear saga here.
The incarnation of Heavenly Leader Star. When he was on the run, Dyna Blade took him to safety, revealed the story of 108 stars, and taught him the secrets of the galaxy. However, Marx took this as an opportunity to conquer the universe, using the knowledge to manipulate Kirby to help him activate Nova. After Kirby stopped his crazy plan and revived him after his Soul form fight, Kirby really doesn't want to talk to him ever again, even though Marx does not see any wrong in his way and still sees Kirby as a friend.
After King Dedede's defeat at the hands of Kirby, a large of amount of Waddle Dees lost respect for the king and began searching for new leaders to serve. Many of them found a new home in Meta Knight's Army, which is preparing to launch a war to take over Dream Land.

If you remember the chapter of Pupupu Hero where Kirby had his second Gourmet Race, here's the prequel to that! Can Kirby stomach the nasty surprises King Dedede's minions have in store for him, let alone Kawasaki's terrible cuisine? Find out at the following links:

So I was wandering in pixiv looking at Japanese Kirby fanart when I stumbled upon a couple fan mangas (ずっと、キミをみていると by ちくわの神 and Aster! by 鵡) about Kirby's 34th Anniversary. Both are really good and I highly recommend checking them out before or after reading this ramble I've written on a whim.
And boy did they made me cry for Popopo.
For those who don't know, Kirby's Dream Land was originally called Popopo of the Spring Breeze until it got changed in order to fill Nintendo's demand in exchange to get the game published. And you can guess from that that Popopo in these mangas is very angst about Kirby's success over him and worries that he will be forgotten by everyone.
Here's some of the dialogue that hit me the most. I ran them through a translator but I think they're close to what they meant.
Popopo: …I, I envied Kirby. I’d been here all alone for so long, and I wanted a friend. I wanted someone to remember me. I wanted to be Kirby. I was supposed to be him. But I just couldn’t do it. Because I’m Popopo.
Popopo: Someday, my friends will forget me and never come back.
And everyone will say they love Kirby, that he’s their friend,
Leaving me behind to follow you all!
They’ll be drawn to him… to Kirby of the Stars.
At the end of the day though, it ends on a hopeful note.
Dedede: I couldn't help him… He'll be alone again.
Kirby: I'm sure it'll be okay. I feel like I've been friends with Popopo for a very long time.*
Dedede: Kirby...
Kirby: I know that's probably not true, but that's how it feels. Don't you think so too, King? Actually, we might have met Popopo a long time ago!
*Most likely a reference to the phrase by Popopo in a piece of Twinkle☆Popo advertising material: 「君を見ていると、ずっと昔からおともだちだった気がするよ。」 ("Looking at you, I feel like we've been friends for a long time.") - Source
Kirby: I've got a great idea!!!!!
Narrator: This is Dream Land, a country so peaceful it’s almost unbelievable. And today is Kirby and King Dedede's birthday - even more so than usual.
Crowd: Happy Birthday to you!
Narrator: And so, it turned out to be a peaceful day.
Note on the cupcake: Friend Popopo.
Kirby: …Popopo, it's okay! I'll always be Popopo's friend! Dedede and everyone else love Popopo too!
Popopo: Kirby...
Void: That's right! Popopo is the one being celebrated, too.
Popopo: Huh? Me too?
Oh right, I forgot to post my updated designs for Kirby and King Dedede that I drew for reference before working on that 34th anniversary drawing :P (their classic designs are there too)
