i saw a post about how spartans were actually wrongly depicted in common history books for being very sexist, because they gave women more bodily autonomy, education and safety than britain did 2000 years later. and this reminded me of how when i was 11 i was giving a history exam which had a question about wether i would rather be a part of spartan society or athens, and because my history books had said they were both horrible to women, i wrote a long answer about how i would run away from them with a bunch of other women and form my own community and overthrow both athens and sparta.
while im happy to know that i wouldnt have needed to do that if id been born in either of those cities, im also so proud of my mini feminist self who didnt even realise she was a feminist yet
