Impressive front end 😎 Northern Shoveler (Spatula Clypeata)
Bill Paterson, a wood carver from Ontario, Canada, first visited the museum in 2009. At that time, he met Bob Spear (Museum’s founder and master carver) and Ingrid Rhind (Bob’s apprentice). In 2020, he heard from a friend in a Burlington that although Bob carved close to 500 birds, there were still some Vermont species that had not been completed. After communicating with staff, he decided to carve and donate a male Northern Shoveler to the Museum. Unfortunately, due to the border being closed, he was not able to visit during the summer of 2021. This week he was able to visit the museum for the first time in over a decade. Due to the “long winter” with lots of time to carve he donated a female Northern Shoveler too! Thank you so much, Bill! #Gratitude #WoodCarving #NorthernShoveler #SpatulaClypeata #BirdCarving #OntarioWoodCarvers #WaterfowlCarving (at Birds of Vermont Museum) https://www.instagram.com/p/Ce3Xxutu0Kz/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
