are there any plans you can talk about re: Earthcast?
YES... my deepest, deepest apologies for the very long delay. I ended up uhhh finishing an entire semester of classes in between updates. However my classes are done!! I should have more time to write!! I’m gonna finish it dangit!!! I know exactly how it ends, and I think y’all will like it... soon!
And when I finally vanquish this beast, I will start working on the published versions. As things stand, I’d like to offer Earthcast as a single printed volume but Cannot, because no print on demand publisher will allow me to print a novel that is rapidly approaching 500k words. (Edging close to War and Peace length...) Maybe I can split it into two volumes, but we’ll have to see. Unfortunately the longer the books are the more I’m forced to charge for printing costs- that’s the trouble with POD publishing, alas.
Once I figure out how I’m gonna break up this monster, I’ll start looking into artists to commission for cover art. I’m thinking I will make an offer to @alizabug first because they did such gorgeous work on the Darkeye covers, but if they aren’t available I will open up an ad to the general public again. Speaking of ads, I may try out purchasing actual ads to sell the books this time around... we’ll see.
Finally, I want to mention I am also still working on Speak, Dog! Perhaps I’ll be able to give my Patreon supporters some more previews from it soon! I don’t plan on starting another long webnovel project until I’ve knocked it out.
Thank you thank you to everyone who has stuck by me throughout all this!
Are you still going to release Speak, Dog? I haven't heard anything about it for a while.
Yes, I am, and I’m really sorry about the delay. I’m planning to channel my creative energy into getting it out as soon as I finish Earthcast (which should be 1-2 chapters from now!) I am not allowing myself to start another longform webnovel until it’s complete.
Grant received by local charity to promote animal welfare As part of Oak Tree Animals’ Charity’s community programme, the charity has received a £10,000 grant to create a part-time education officer role Full story: https://www.cumbriacrack.com/2018/02/02/grant-received-local-charity-promote-animal-welfare/
Once upon a time there was a city with an endless supply of food, where science was celebrated and the most popular pet was a thinking, talking dog. But the image of this perfect pet is shattered when a dog kills its owner and for the first time ever, asks for a fair trial.
Zeki, a teenage boy, and his dog Tesem are shocked by the news of the trial. But they have no idea what the repercussions are going to be like when a new rule of law takes over the city as people begin to fear their dogs, straining their friendship to the limit.
Meanwhile, Angari, a streetwise Basenji, inadvertently stumbles onto some startling information while carrying out her own investigation of the murder: the time of limitless food is coming to an end, and the humans are discussing a new, alternative source of meat. This knowledge comes with a price- on her head.
When the dark truth about the murder trial comes out, it rattles the city's population to its core. What is the right place for animals with human intelligence in a city that can no longer support its swelling population? As Zeki, Tesem, and Angari struggle to find their own answers, a final player enters the scene: a cagebound, nameless wild dog.
Speak, Dog is a novella set before the events that take place in the Darkeye series. The novella will come bundled with other short stories set in the Darkeye universe from the perspectives of characters like Sacha, Maha, Biscuit and Vimbo.
The novella will be released in ebook and print formats in 2015, after the fourth and final volume of Darkeye is published.
