Zara Graves the current speaker of Cheydinhal sanctuary, the listener of the dark brotherhood, the black rose murderess, the woman who could quite literally kill with a kiss and….The love of his life….. although…. he just couldn’t say it… The thing about Lucien was that he was tactile reserved. Love was a more painful art then even murder. Why? Simple Love is the strongest emotion which also makes it the most dangerous. Lucien knee Poisons,Potions, spells and enchantments… but the most powerful magic he had encountered was her.
Zara, he sat outside her office sharpening his blade watching her dance quietly about her office. Going through contract after contract. Scribbling notes for the other speakers on the fancy enchanted parchment she wrote with. He loved watching her work the slight intricacies in the way she moved her hand when writing. Or the way her lip twitched upward just the slightest bit when she was thinking about her pride in the other Assassins in the sanctuary.
However… she’d been at this all night. A workaholic and protectionist.Truly woman after his own heart. She needed a break. If not for her own sake than for his own assurance she hadn’t overworked herself. He placed the blade he was polishing down on the table and made his way to where she was sitting. He knew he could instinctually be quiet a risk of the trade perhaps. However Zara was an Assassin same and he was and they both had a tendency to be ...jumpy. So he announced himself with a knock on the door frame.
“May I come in?” Lucien questioned.
“Of course you may, I don’t think I’ve denied you before ,and I am not about to start now.” Zara chuckled. Her white bobbed hair all pouring into her face as she scribbled into her paperwork intently.
Lucien shook his head, she always did this. It was apart of her dedication to the brotherhood. He slid his arms around her in a surprise hug.
“You need a break my dear.”
“I would Luce...but the paperwork.” Zara started to explain.
Lucien looked her in the eyes. Slid his fingers under her chin and kissed her.
“The paperwork can wait. Come.” He takes her hand ,and leads her outside of Cheydinhal sanctuary. Down the streets laden with purple houses.
“Lucien where are we going?” Zara questioned.
“You’ll see.” He replied leading her to the stables.
“Are we taking your horse or mine?” Zara questioned.
“It matters little to me. Apple is game for anything.” He smiled at the brown horse before smuggling Apple a treat.
“Mine is a cool demon horse…” Zara smirked
“And Apple is sweet. So we’re at an impasse I’m afraid.” Zara smiled.
“An impasse...hmmm..that simply won’t do. I guess we’ll have to race.” He mounted his horse as quickly as he proposed the idea. Waiting for Zara to get on her horse Shadowmere.
When they were both on they were off… Lucien knew to make sure to try and lead her in the right direction now that he’d noticed he forgot to tell her which way they were heading.
“Zara follow me!” Lucien called to her.
“Follow you? Isn’t that an unfair advantage I thought we were racing.” Zara teased before following him racing him in the similar direction.
When they had finally reached their destination Lucien just smiled as he had arrived first.
He dismounted himself before aiding Zara in doing the same.
“I can dismount myself you know.” Zara grabbed onto his chest for balance.
“I know Zara.” He smirked moving a white strand of hair from her face. “I know.”
Lucien looked to Zara her purple eyes as vibrant as ever in the moonlight.
“So what mysterious place has legendary Assassin Lucien Lachance led me to now?” She smiled.
“It was once an old military fort… now it’s abandoned.” Lucien explained.
“It’s seen countless lives come ,and go. Yet now if you and I climb to the top.” Lucien mad his way to stand next to Zara his hand pointing at tower on the fort. “We can watch countless stars do the same.” He smiles trying to gauge Zara’s reaction. He led her to the edge of the tower to a spot he knew to have a ladder. He lead her on first. Not ,because she was afraid of danger he knew that was the farthest thing from fact ,because he was afraid of her being in danger.
He followed Zara up ,and lay down beside her to look up at the sky above. A swirl of black ,and pink ,and blue. A background as dark as the void itself. Yet teeming with the souls of those loyal to sithis.
“I like to imagine the stars are souls of brotherhood members before us.” Zara thought aloud wistfully.
“There to break the misconception that nothingness is darkness. That to believe in a void or a meaninglessness is to believe in some sort of evil. If nothing has meaning or matters… if it’s a void than each of us are free in the end. Truly free, every soul sent to Sithis is a soul set free.” Zara explained leaning into Lucien’s Robe. Her white hair on his shoulder a stark contrast to the black he usually donned.
“A beautiful sentiment… not nearly as beautiful as you though.” He smiled. Playing with her hair with the hand of the arm that was wrapped behind her neck.
“Thank you.” Zara looked to him her eyes bright purple.
“For what my dear?” He asked.
“For ensuring I don’t get to caught up in contracts.”She said. Her voice reverberating through his chest.
“Always...I love you.” Lucien confessed.
And just like that Love to him while just as dangerous… was just as dangerous in the arms of someone worth dying for.
