People die shortly after being released but they stopped counting the deaths. Children are kept here without parents they are using mandatory medical check ups and court dates including naturalization meetings where they get citizenship. The President tried to revoke Birthright Citizenship, American citizens including Veterans have been detained and held for long periods of time. I.C.E pulls people from their homes. I.C.E has waited at polling places. Those who criticize I.C.E Including on social media are getting arrested for up to 50 years. Protesters are also being arrested as domestic terrorists but White supremacists such as Patriot Front, Proud boys, Literal Neo-Nazi's are allowed to walk free and 'protest.'

Anti-Fascism,Killing Nazi's, believing people should be given Equity, and everything we fought for in world war 2 gets you labeled a domestic terrorist.

The United States Repealed the Following;

•the Voting Rights act

•Abortion Rights

•Federal Contractor Protections

•They are trying to repeal the Olmstead Act

• gender affirming care and gender Identity protections

•Diversity Equity and Inclusion and any programs that even mention it

•Disparate Impact protections and programs aiming to protect marginalized communities that are disproportionately impacted by health inequity, wealth inequity, housing inequity and education inequity.

I'm loving this new trend of people going to zoos and participating in animal enrichment. We use to observe large exotic animals for our entertainment, but the fact is that we are now trying to make ourselves equally as entertaining for them. It's interactive, completely parpicipatory and I would argue that eventually someone's gonna come up with something new enough that it expland ethologists understanding about how some animals think, problem solve, communicate and feel and I think its fantastic.

Just to raise awareness at the situation in Canada right now to my non-Canadian followers: Toronto has been ranked as having the worst air quality in the world right now due to wildfires.

Toronto is not a wildfire-prone area. It is extremely close to the USA border, and the smog is currently affecting NY right now. There is literal chunks of debris in the air. The sky is orange, and the sun is nowhere to be seen.

Climate change and its effects are right outside your door. Data centres are the cause for the insane heat waves across the globe, and the increase in wildfires and other natural disasters.

You will watch recordings of the world burn around you, and only when you are behind the camera will you realize there is no going back.

Stop the data centres. Protect our planet.

Yeah, we've been having some yellow-sky days around my way lately.

Governor Hochul finally signed New York State's one-year moratorium on new data centers, but projects that were in the early planning stages are trying to claim that it doesn't apply to them. Hopefully they'll at least be tied up in litigation for a while. Recently, when a constituent said that New York doesn't need data centers, a Republican legislator made the brilliant remark that we must need them, or else companies wouldn't be trying to build them. Because we need everything somebody wants to sell us, I guess I desperately need some vodka with gold flakes in it, too.

Hours and euros that could be spent on humans, and species on whom humanity's own survival does not depend? Did you know that due to an accidental introduction of rats, the Lord Howe Island stick insect population was brought down to 24 individuals and now there are tens of thousands of them?

This bug. This bug that, to most humans, is utterly useless, relatively gross, and completely foreign. Humans saved it because humans do not want to cause another extinction ever again if they can avoid it.

as someone in the field of ecological conservation, I can promise without a shadow of a doubt that people DO care. SO MANY people care.

I have to race to sign up to volunteer trips because even with dozens of spots available, people rush to devote their unpaid free time to helping the environment. these trips often fill up within hours. people care.

you will see a lot of bad news because that is the kind of news that people pay the most attention to. I know this more than you'd think from my optimism- not only do I live somewhere facing some of the most extreme ecological issues on the planet, I also spend my time studying the Bad Stuff every single day.

to see all of this firsthand and stay hopeful is proof enough that there IS hope. I promise there is good news, brilliant news, all the time. it's just less visible. but it's no less important or impactful.

By the way it's like. Really fucked how society's thoughts on epilepsy is just "get over it." Seizures can cause permanent brain damage. Seizures can kill people. Seizures hurt like hell. Allow me to reiterate that seizures can kill people. And you're just gonna casually put flashing lights, a common trigger for seizures in your advertisement, in your animation meme, in your edit, on your billboards, without even thinking about putting a simple disclaimer? That's unbelievable. Your little anime edit could deadass cost a life and you're not gonna put a warning because it's "inconvenient" or "people like that shouldn't be on the internet" (ableist) (the problem exists outside the internet also). Or you'll give insufficient ones like putting it in the captions or only giving like one second before the flashing lights appear, meaning that the trigger's already in motion before anyone who needs the warning can read it and save themselves from literal physical danger.

We need to start commenting under other people's posts about how to properly warn for flashing lights and eyestrain. We need to be emailing and calling companies about their possibly triggering advertisements that could induce seizures. We need to stop tolerating ableism and start speaking up for the more vulnerable.

Also, stop putting epilepsy warnings. That's like saying "warning: schizophrenia" on a post including unreality or "warning: dyslexia" on a post with a typing quirk. First off, the disability mentioned isn't the only group of people that this could trigger. Second, it doesn't truly get the message across and instead makes it worse for those with the disability-- scrolling through the epilepsy tag on Tumblr should get you to view the content of other epileptic people, but no, you just get a bunch of flashing lights and eyestrain, even though you could instead tag for, oh I dunno, flashing lights and eyestrain.

Anyways this Disability Pride, and for every month that comes after, think about epileptic people and others who are triggered by flashing lights/eyestrain. Happy pride to those who experience seizures too frequently due to the unaccommodating and ableist societies we live in!
