making the first spearcrest Tumblr post
ok, I'm big into TTRPGs. I love D&D for all it's issues, I like pathfinder, I like delta green, ink, lancer, and most of the other ones I've played and read.
but by god, Spearcrest is so far one of the most deeply interesting systems I've read and I'm still in the process of reading it.
practically every other entry I'm thinking "this is one of the most inventive and interesting mechanics or pieces of lore I have seen" or "oh my god how did they even fucking come up with this this is so deeply interesting, cool,.and unique."
the words used and the way devils, fey, and angels are redefined, along with so many other tropes.
the words they use, it reminds me of homestuck in a really good way where they very uniquely use very specific or almost weird words to define things.
From what I've gathered the core theme of the game, is interplay and synergy. In it's introduction it says that it's based on the interplay if magic and it's effects in a nonmagical world. But I'd go further as to say it's also about the synergy of how different magic clashes and effects one each other; Furthermore the game is about the synergy of how you can use different actions and abilities together to break the system.
Spearcrest, the head of a spear, you are meant to break off the head of the spear as you use it. It is a system meant to be broken and by god I'm going to break it.
I'm going to keep reading and probably no one will see this ramble, but if anyone does and this sounds interesting to you how I learned about it was from this Dylan McVillain video that got randomly recommended to me a week or two ago. Just from the title I felt like there was something special here that I needed to see, and I fervently believe that I was right.
