"Shifty. Think that's the best word for'em. Now, Don't get me wrong, I've known plenty of people that just come off a bit dodgy who are truly in it for good reasons, I'm just... Not sure that he is, yet."
She purses her lips a moment.
"See... When I first heard about Mizuki, it was a bit of a telephone game. A friend of Kiriko, who was a friend of Genji. Of course, anyone who runs with that crowd deserves at least the benefit of the doubt, but..." She hums in thought,
"It's the way he carries himself, you know? The way he speaks, the way he laughs- Its supposed to be carefree, but it's more... Detached. Like he's trying to avoid getting too invested. I've seen that before, in people trying to hide how they really feel. Usually because they've got something eating them up inside. A conflict, or guilt."
A hand traces through her hair.
"I'm worried he sees the Yokai as a means to help himself be at peace, rather than an opportunity to help others. Not that those can't be the same, Its just,-" She throws her hands up a bit to emphasize her next words,
"When you crawl out of a dark place, the people who give you a helping hand, can quickly turn into footholds you step on in the scramble up. Even if you don't mean to."
"All that is to say... I like him, but I don't trust him. Not yet, at least."
