Daily Photo of Japan: High up in the mountains near Mihara, lies the Ryusen-ji, an oft overlooked mountain temple. Technically it can be accessed by bus, but from the last bus stop along the highway, it’s an hour long hike up a mountain.

However, if you can access it, it hosts a spectacular view, the likes of which I haven’t experienced in Japan – until now.

From the top of the mountain, a short hike past the temple proper, one can see for miles and miles. Outstretched in front of me was the Seto Sea and Shikoku. The rolling mountains and valleys and overlooked farm towns of Hiroshima Prefecture sprawled behind me.

To anyone reading this blog that happens to be in Japan, I cannot recommend this temple enough. Go on a clear day in the autumn and you’ll take in a sight you won’t soon forget.
