This is very belated, but thank you for tagging me in that post about Jax's phobias. I too like to think about how the frightening implications of hypnotism would affect our little guys psychologically!

Oh, yeah, this one! I’ve held onto the mirrors thing for a verrrrrry long time, it just felt right (and depressing).

What if MC in the Denaliverse has spectrophobia (even if MC is objectively gorgeous asf).

Having this phobia would probably make her vibe a little extra with classical vampires who completely lack any reflection, but that’s besides the point.

Feel free to throw in some uneasiness with eye contact and the fear of (these particular) women, as garnish, if you’d like to!

Sufferers of spectrophobia can fear the breaking of a mirror bringing extreme bad luck. They can fear the thought of something frightening jumping out of the mirror, or seeing something disturbing inside of it next to their own reflection when looking directly at it. Already, your heart was pounding.

You weren't even near it, but the thought alone was enough to send your body into overdrive. You'd done your best to stall, to avoid what was about to happen, but there was only so much avoiding the inevitable.

Curse your weak bladder.

Curse them for making it a problem.

...Adding to your ever-growing list of things I didn't know existed until they started jeopardizing mine.

A light sheen of sweat coated your heated skin as you made your way up the stairs, gripping the railing as if your life depended on it. Your heart grew more erratic by the second, thumping in your ears, hammering away in your head like a jackhammer.

Thud-thud, thud-thud, thud-thud, thud-thud.

Much too soon, you found yourself standing before the bathroom.

Just go in, you tried to push yourself. You've done that shit - quite literally - a thousand times before. There's nothing in there that you haven't seen before. Things work the same. Things look the same. Same old, same old.

...Except it wasn't.

Things did not look the same.

And they never would again.

Images flashed through your mind. Pictures of red - so much of it. Everywhere.

When you fell asleep.

When you woke up.

When you left the room ironically dubbed "safe space" by the very... thing that seemed hellbent on proving you otherwise.

As if any more "proof" was needed.

Your sweaty hand reached for the doorknob, your chest rising and falling in rapid succession as you steeled yourself for what awaited you on the other side. Your teeth ground together, muscles tensing as you prepared to burst in. Like a band aid. Might hurt for a moment, but it would hurt a lot less than a burst bladder, that was for sure.

...

Now.

Do it now.

...Now!

...

For fuck's sake.

Your hand dropped together with your head, a dull thud! sounding out when it bumped against the wooden door. For a brief moment, you considered just... letting go. To hell with it. Wouldn't be the first time. And probably not the last.

You frowned.

Another piece of your dignity - chipped away.

Another thing they took.

So effortlessly.

So naturally.

Like breathing.

You pushed off the door, a different kind of heat quickly taking over. It coursed through you in waves, making you sweat. Making you see re-

Your eyes screwed shut.

To hell with it.

With them.

You burst through the door, red shackles in pieces as you were driven by something far greater than fear. The door slammed shut behind you, rattling in its hinges, trembling at your display. You gave it no time to settle as you whipped around, hand surging towards the key and turning-

The key was ripped out and thrown aside - to where, you didn't know. Didn't care. The brief clinking sound was barely acknowledged before you spun around again, face set, mind steeled-

Until it wasn't.

Your collapsed against the door, the color draining from your face as you came face to face with-

...It.

The very thing that had been haunting you so ever since that terrible night. One of many, yet so much worse. Anything before mere child's play in comparison.

"Out."

"...Are you for-"

"Out."

"This is my space, too. I live here-"

"For now."

A scoff.

"Katrina, please."

The scene played in your head like it happened only yesterday. Images so clear, you felt like experiencing it all over again. That familiar feel of terror seizing you, rooting you to the spot, keeping you from looking away.

You stared at the mirror, fully expecting - dreading - another face to pop up behind yours.

A face bearing red.

"Love?"

Your chest rose and fell rapidly, sweat coating your ashen face as your legs turned to jelly. The door weighed heavily against your back, almost suffocating you with its unyielding presence. Your heart pounded against it, attempting to punch right through, it felt like.

Attempting to flee, as you had.

Over and over again.

Muffled rattling echoed, vibrating painfully against your back as you remained frozen, wide eyes staring at your own reflection - warped with terror.

More rattling. More vibrating. More viciously. "Love, what's going on in there? Has Kate done something?"

"Has Kate done what now? What's going on here? And why am I the scapegoat? I literally just got here-"

"Buď ticho."

Arguing voices continued to echo everywhere, yet nowhere all at once, raining down on you in that awful, familiar way of theirs. It never stopped. They never stopped. The arguing. The fighting. The tearing of limbs and spilling of red-

"Láska, open the door."

A scoff.

"Yeah, I'm sure she'll do just that. Here, lemme-"

"You will not."

"So you'd rather stand here looking like a damn idiot? Cause that's what she does because you let her. She's fucking with you, and you just stand there and take it like a bitch in heat. Such a pathetic sight, honestly."

A beat passed, filled with nothing but the skull-crushing, rapid-fire beat of your heart.

"...Why don't you make yourself useful and get the spare key... sister?"

Another beat.

"...How about you get it yourself... 'sister'."

Heavy breathing echoed in the confined space, your panicked reflection staring back at you for another, overwhelming beat-

The door shook violently. As did your image. Ripples upon ripples, washing over your body, shaking you to your core-

...And gradually transforming the face staring back at you.

"Open this door. Now."

"What's going on?"

Despite the horror unfolding right before your eyes, your heart skipped a beat.

"She's a wimp, that's what's going on-"

"Katrina, please-"

Another ripple. Strong enough to drown the hope that had bubbled up at her voice.

Foolish.

Stupid.

To even allow yourself the pleasure of such a foreign concept, when you knew damn well not even she could keep the demons away.

"Carmen, be a dear and fetch me the spare key."

"...Of course."

Because she was one.

i’ve been experimenting with taking more pictures of myself

mainly bc my bf likes them but also bc i wanna get over my fear of seeing myself

today tho i caved and just deleted the most recent ones which kinda sucks but like

i still think it’s progress that i even took them without anyone asking for them

also the hotel room i’m in has a super reflective table and i sat down to eat my cheese flatbread and got fucking jumpscared which :( no fun :(
