A great fight between Errol Spence Jr and Yordenis Ugas in Dallas on Saturday night. Spence added the WBA belt to his WBC and IBF welterweight titles. Lotsa big punches and lotsa faux fur. Lets dig in:
Spence had a sleeveless hooded ring robe with faux fur on the back, shoulders and hood - so that from some angles he looked like he was wearing a muppet halloween costume. His in-ring look was better than his previous effort - but that’s a pretty low bar.
A black, chartreuse, purple, hot pink and yellow get-up, with also perhaps some neon orange (?). There’s just too much happening on the trunks -- and thats saying something considering there’s only one ad (for Only Fans, no less - Ricardo Mayorga would approve).
The color scheme is complex -- black, purple, hot pink and chartreuse (along with some gold (?) outline of TRUTH on the waistband). The black panels appear to be snakeskin pattern and of course the side panels are fur.
Confusingly, Spence wore yellow Everlast gloves to compliment these trunks:
I guess there were, in theory, meant to match the chartreuse, but in execution they didn’t. I liked Errol’s footwear, but he also appears to have mixed in some neon orange:
A more simple color scheme for Ugas....but don’t worry - faux fur is still involved.
Ugas also had a muppet-looking ring robe, with red faux fur on the hood of a white robe. In the ring he had a nice look:
Clean red and white set (aside from a couple of ads).
54 on the waistband refers to Aroldis Chapman, Ugas’ best friend and former MLB pitcher who wore jersey #54. Milagros on the left front leg is a reference to Ugas’ mother.
He wore plain white Everlast gloves:
...and matching Cuba-themed shoes with a couple of little red puffs/tassels:
Strong look from the Cuban, unique look from Spence. A great fight for boxing and for fans of faux fur.
