Unknown Sphecodes.  #Sphecodes are often "unknown" their identification can be tricky and taxonomically they haven't been tackled in many years.  But they are lovely and nest parasites of things mostly #Halictidae. #bees #bee

Blood bee (Sphecodes app.) on New York aster (Symphyotrichum novi-belgii). A rare encounter with a male blood bee - so rare in fact that I had no idea what I was photographing. For some reason I seem to only encounter females, until now that is. There are distinct differences.
