Taxonomy: Superfamily Bombycoidea; Family Sphingidae

Food Plants: Convolvulus, mainly. The caterpillar has also been recorded eating plants of the Malvaceae, Fabaceae, and Araceae. May also be a pest on Lpomomea batatas, “Sweet Potato”.

Species Notes This species appears to have two distinct colour variations, one being dark brown and bark-like, the other being a pale low-contrast grey. What makes the species distinct, are the markings on the thorax. This species is a migrant across Australia, but is permanent on the Queensland coast.

Cephonodes species in a defense position.

A few nights ago I made a new friend ♥

I don’t know how, but they had gotten themselves trapped inside my room! I had trouble catching them, so I decided just to go back to sleep. The next morning, they were gone (keep in mind, my room is not sealed properly, and they could’ve gotten out anywhere).

Where ever they are now, I hope they found a mate ♥ These pentas caterpillars are some of my favs, and we have plenty of pentas in our yard!
