Hold it in (drabble)
Unrequited CapOut drabble, 245 words.
There was always something so stoic about Dugout's countenance. Something dignified, and silently insightful in the way he stands.
Capricorn watches him now, as he stands at the edge of the baseball field.
It's the two of them on patrol this month. Bobunny and Sphinx are across the city, by the harbor. And Capricorn is here with Dugout.
It's not efficient to spend all their time trying to make conversation. Capricorn is the chatty type, and Dugout? The polar opposite. As she watches his eyes trace the chain link fence at the edge of the field, she wonders what's going on in his mind.
Bobunny carries a similar dignity in her stride. One with more authority, and an insight more tactical, pin-point focus. She demands attention in her every word, one that always intimidates Capricorn just enough to stop them from cracking a joke. Its inherent, in the age of her countenance, the smoker's lines along her lips.
She was the one to assign them together, a decision Capricorn wouldn't want to question anyway. To the contrary: a decision they have to contain their excitement for.
But as they stand here, in the baseball field, that's all Capricorn can do. Contain their curiosity. Contain their questions for Dugout, all the conversation starters, the pickup lines he could see himself macking on him with.
Capricorn takes a deep breath. He turns his attention away from Dugout. It'd be embarrassing if he got caught off-guard, over this.
