Even if his apartment hasn't already been repossessed, his family has definitely already looted through his things. Technically, he's classified as a missing person, but everyone thinks he's either dead or as good as dead. At least, they did until their names were used to curse them. Legally, though, he's still a missing person.

Anything he owned worth keeping is long gone, and the rest was probably sold or thrown out. Or destroyed. He knows that he's never getting any of his stuff back. When he left everything behind, he really left everything.

also i was thinking about how much virgil and remy would consume in caffine, its def not a healthy amount like id imagine its an equivelant to like 5 monsters. probably wouldnt help virge with his anxiety either.

5 for the ask game: Truly, a number of fae and monsters will have profound regrets when they sober up.

So, driders and human-driders don't metabolize caffine the same way human do. They got basically all of the 'good' stuff from their human side and none of the 'bad' stuff. Why? Because I said so.

I actually had to dig through my notesto refresh my memory on this but the notes say: Fortunately, coffee's most adverse effects don't really show up much in driders. Virgil's insomnia and anxiety are unrelated. No fast heartbeat, irritability, digestive issues, headaches, fatigue, dehydration, or any of that stuff.

Because I like making my boy suffer but not like that, apparently.

Funny story about Remy's name! His real name is not Remington but it is his legal name on Earth. Remy found it was easier to live on Earth if he had all the legal doccuments with a fake name. He orignally just used Sleep, but that came with some problems as it was obivously a fake name.

Around the time the REM sleep cycle was name a human friend nicknamed him Remy because it fits and sounds more like a legit name. Remy started using it as his moniker on Earth. Later, another friend started calling him Remington as a joke. Both friends are long dead now and Remy still uses the nicknames they gave him in their memory.

i was reading through the comments in the last update and i read that virge has his tempest tongue. how exactly does it work? also technically that means his tempest is the thunder to his lightning magic-🕸

Tempest Tongue is Virgil's voice laced with fear magic. It's very loud and strikes fear into the hearts of everyone who hears it. It basically taps into people's primal, instinctive fear reaction and sets off all of the alarm bells. It also forces people to listen - really listen - to what Virgil's saying, the magic seeping into their minds and giving the words more impact.

Usually, Virgil has a tight handle on it, only using it during battle and even then not often. He used to lose control of it when he was afraid, but he's gotten so used to fear he's had a lot of practice controlling himself in those moments. It's just second nature at this point.

You know what emotion he doesn't have a lot of experience with? Anger. Virgil is not inherently an angry person. He's good at repressing anger, not controlling it. He just wasn't allowed to be angry when he was younger, so when he does get angry - like, really angry I mean full-on rage - he loses control of the Tempest Tongue.

It hasn't happened often, but there were some truly disgusting monster hunters at the MHA and when Virgil found out what they were doing it pushed him over the edge. Yeah, they didn't live long after that. Janus isn't the only one known to clean house.

Also, I full-on squealed when I read "the thunder to his lightning magic". You are so right.

a small headcanon here but i reckon virgil would be the type to scratch his self harm scars in a panic attack, not because he actively wants to hurt himself but because its like second nature to him.

like it reminds him of what he used to but he cant stop himself. id imagine jay finding him doing it someday where he activly cause some damge and helping him calm down. -🕸

Oof this hit close to home. Yeah, I can see Virgil scratching his arms bloody out of instinct. That and hair-pulling when he's consciously trying not to scratch. Sometimes you just can't control it, though. Janus helping him through that would be really sweet.
