Happy Clone Wars Friday!

One thing I like about this comic is it shows that Palpatine used the fact that Maul survived to make Obi-Wan look bad in front of Anakin. Of course, Palpatine was taken off guard himself, but no one has to know that. Three cheers for our brilliant future emperor, who can twist every variable to his favor!

Day 2: Mindless

Maul froze, his gaze suddenly sharpening, clarity slicing through the muddle of his mind for the first time in years.

"I must have revenge."

Happy Clone Wars Friday!

This week’s theme: Magnificent Lettering!

Well, I don’t know if this particular lettering is “magnificent” -- but it certainly does show that, just in case you have any doubt, Spider-Maul is getting electrocuted. And it’s very loud. If you watch the cartoon, this is mostly what happens in it. There is also a cool contrast between the spiked, unbound letters of the electrocution onomatopoeia, and the rounded, organic letters of the scream, breaking free of a speech bubble.

If you look closely at the letters, you will see that though they are of different sizes and orientations, they are all of the same shape. This is normal for digital art, and though it still looks awesome, it’s the kind of thing that stands out to me and makes me prefer traditional art.

Magnificent Lettering Week Index

I’m proud of the seven short pieces I wrote this week about lettering in Star Wars comics. This past month has been especially difficult for me, as my cat became suddenly ill and passed away at the end of last week. I’m going through a lot of grief right now, but this blog has remained a source of joy and fulfillment. I wrote about topics I care about, from art analysis to social issues, through the lens of this niche, nerdy topic; I even drew a banner for it. Honestly, I have not been able to do much else. Thanks to everyone who reads along, especially those who also love these strange, little things. Love hurts me right now, but it is also the only thing keeping me going.
