Pulgoier is staring at him again, Cellbit can feel it on the back of his neck as he works. It's standing next to ?, the two of them holding hands while they wait for their instructions, and it just keeps staring at him.
He doesn't look back at it, he knows it won't say anything new, or anything at all, for that matter. Still, it's never any less unsettling to have a tiny version of his husband stare at him for minutes at a time, not blinking once and full of hatred.
And isn't that something to think about? A version of his husband hates him. It hates him with everything in its little body for what he's done, for hurting its own Cellbit. He supposes he can't blame Pulgoier for that, even if it leaves a bad taste in his mouth, Roier hates the Federation just as much for a similar reason.
Cellbit's had plenty of time to think that over, too. He hadn't slept the night he first made the comparison, and he's barely gotten any since, either. That's why he went out and got that book for ?, the little guy deserves something for all the shit Cellbit put him through.
Cellbit only looks back when he knows Pulgoier isn't looking at him anymore, and is instead looking at the Rubik's Cube ? is showing off. He gave it that, too, just as something to do. He knows it likes puzzles as much as he does.
Pulgoier turns and catches him watching, its hand still tightly clasped in the other's. It doesn't say a word, but it seems to be considering him again with the new information its gotten. Cellbit doubts its anywhere near forgiving him, but it doesn't make any threats before it focuses back on ? again.
Realistically, he knows it's not enough to make up for what he's done, but he hopes it's a start.
