when or if I started shipping it: sometime between August-October 2015 OR after May 2016 and yes I know how weirdly specific that is
my thoughts: I have A Lot…. mostly just…. I love them…. so much….??? have some fanfic thoughts that I typed out and then realized I didn’t have a section to talk about lmfao. Please give me all the Spideypool where Peter is also explicitly mentally ill and him and Wade support each other through crises. Please give me Spideypool where they have to deal with each other’s respective moral codes and past. Spideypool is the best enemies-to-lovers story you can ask for, the best identity porn you can ask for (outside early 616 canon stony), it can easily fit any genre of story and still make sense within canon, it can be serious or crack or angst or anything else and it’s all equally plausible and equally wonderful and I’m really emotional about this ship okay??
What makes me happy about them: I mean… everything? Look when they’re at their best you can’t ask for a better duo, they play off of each other so well and they’re so fun to just have together (both as a ship and not). There’s just so much to play with there and when people portray them well they’re this perfect combination of being quirky and having a “weird” relationship but with a strong, healthy core where they both take care of and look out for each other and like. That’s my fucking weakness that right there g o d.
What makes me sad about them: the canon issues surrounding the treatment of Wade’s mental health issues (both his hallucinations/schizophrenia/possible DID and self image/self value/etc.). Because in both canon and some fanon Peter just… doesn’t handle that well, in the same way that most of Marvel doesn’t handle it well (being dismissive, getting angry about it, it’s always a punchline and never taken seriously, etc.) and within the context of them as a ship that always is really upsetting to see.
Things done in fanfic that annoys me: for the LOVE OF GOD can everyone PLEASE stop writing underage Peter/Wade!!!!! JUST STOP IT ALREADY PLEASE!!!!! (also if I never have to see another Superfamily fic with barely-legal Peter and older-but-concerningly-they-don’t-give-an-age Wade where Tony is the disgruntled dad who Hates Wade On Principle I will be the happiest goddamn guy in the world)
Things I look for in fanfic: NO UNDERAGE, no character death, moderate amount of angst, high levels of quality humor or at least witty writing, happy ending, no abuse, Wade being treated as genderfluid rather than having a crossdressing kink if they feel the need to mention that at all, bonus points for identity-related shenanigans and honest but not stereotypical handling of mental health issues
My kinks: Fics with complex characterizations of both Peter and Wade that don’t reduce either of them to one-liners and sarcastic quips
Who I’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other: Honestly I don’t seriously ship them with anyone else, I have exactly zero (0) other ships for Wade and if we’re talking honest endgame for Peter I’m really here for him eventually choosing to remain single
My happily ever after for them: Fanon happily ever after, the two of them have a beautiful but kinda fucking weird relationship and they love each other very much and are very happy together and Wade and Peter both get the emotional support they need and however this story ends it most definitely does NOT end with Peter dying and Wade being left alone. My canon happily ever after is the two of them as at least friends, Peter trusting Wade with his secret identity, Wade finding peace with himself and his moral code, the two of them become forever an important person in each other’s lives, (Marvel stops queerbaiting and they end up together is probably too much of a stretch to be a canon possibility but I don’t fucking care @ marvel give it to me you assholes)
