Isabela Madrigal. She was known to you. Of course she was known to you, all of your life you had been taught to be prim and proper, to stand straight, your shoulders firm and not drooped, your chin high. You had been taught to speak loud and clearly, to not mumble your words, to not whisper or speak under your breath. You had been taught to be perfect your whole life, the only person to ever understand your frustration was the oldest Madrigal grandchild, Isabela.
A year prior to the fall of Casita, you had shyly admitted your feelings to ‘señorita perfecta’. Unbeknownst to you, she was feeling the same way. However, neither of you could act upon your feelings due to her betrothal to Mariano Guzmán. The town's dorky hunk who often relied a little too much on his mother, so the pair of you kept your relationship a secret; never letting on that you were seeing each other, the only person who knew was Dolores.
Things had changed so much since then, Isabela was no longer expected to be perfect and the pair of you could finally be free. You wandered through the town hand in hand with Isabela, the sun shining down on your faces, you figured that her aunt must be having a good day. You let out a soft gasp, seeing a small flower sprouting from between the tiles of the sidewalk, “What’s that one mean?!” You asked, a soft smile playing on your lips.
Isabela eyed you, a slight twinkle shining in her eyes as she pushed her blue powder dyed hair over her shoulder to get a closer look at the flower in question, her eyes squinted slightly before a smile enhanced her features and she turned to you, “That’s a Hyacinthe, it means ‘your loveliness charms me’.” She let you know, you felt your cheeks heat up under her sweet doe eyed gaze. A soft smile played on the girl's lips as she leant forward to plant a sweet kiss to the tip of your nose. Her hand moved to grip yours before dragging you down the street, “Come on, hermosa. Mami has probably finished preparing dinner now.” She grinned, dragging you towards Casita.
It was a week later, you sat cross legged on the flower covered floor of Isabela’s room, weaving the flower stalks in and around one another to make a little crown. Isabela flicked through the pages of a book, her eyes scanning word after word as she slouched across her bed. You stared across at her, watching as her pupils flicked back and forth across the words on the page, “Amor…” You began, slowly, hesitantly. She placed a bookmark between the pages of her book before placing it on a nearby table and locking her eyes on yours, sending you a small smile to continue on, “Would you, maybe, consider teaching me the meanings of the different flowers you grow?” You asked, cautiously.
A smile grew on the Madrigal girl’s face, “Y-you wanna learn more about my passion and gift?” She asked, her brows furrowing slightly.
“Sí… I-I mean if you don’t mind, of course.” You responded.
Isabela’s smile grew wider, “I would love to, mi vida!” She exclaimed, clapping her hands together happily.
You smiled, rising to your feet and heading towards where she slouched on her bed, you sat beside her and placed the flower crown on her head, slightly framing the hair around her face as you did. You crossed your legs in front of you, she sat opposite you, pressing a soft kiss to your lips before leaning over and grabbing a book from a nearby vine, she opened it up and you saw drawings of all different flowers. You eyed it in awe, your hand stroked down the page slightly, “Did you draw these?” You asked.
Isabela nodded, “I did,” she smiled, “let’s get started.” She spoke as she began pointing to the different flowers within the sketchpad.
It was two weeks later, you smoothed down your dress and took a deep breath before heading towards the casita, a bouquet of flowers in hand.
The doors flew open as you approached, Isabela stood on the balcony at the top of the stairs, a soft smile on her face, “Hey amor, back for another flower lesson?” She smiled down at you.
“Uh, no,” You mumbled, “I er… I got you these.” You told her, gesturing to the bouquet.
“(Name), you know she can grow those herself?” Camilo scoffed from the doorway of the dining room.
“Y-yeah, I know she can. I jus-” You mumbled.
“Camilo, shut up. Don’t you have a girlfriend to go and meet up with?” Isabela cocked a brow, folding her arms over her chest.
You couldn’t help but laugh at the way Camilo’s cheeks flushed red and his eyes grew wide before watching as he jogged out of the door, you turned your eyes back to Isabela; watching as she floated down on a vine. Your eyes were wide in awe as her feet planted safely on the floor and she stood in front of you, a smile graced her lips as she glanced between you and the bouquet.
“I… Uh, I guess Milo had a point, huh?” You shrugged.
“Ignore mi estúpido primo,” she told you, stroking a thumb down your cheeks, “you really did this for me?” She asked, gesturing to the bouquet in your hands.
“Y-yeah, I guess I did. I just… uh, I guess I wanted to know the meanings of different flowers to make you a special bouquet. I was going to write a letter but I… I didn’t know what to write and I know that flowers are something you’re passionate about so I took my lack of imagination and originality and your love of flowers and decided to combine them into a little letter for you to let you know my feelings for you.” You explained, feeling yourself getting flustered the longer you spoke.
You lifted your head to see a grinning Isabela, you furrowed your brows, “W-why are you grinning like a Cheshire Cat?” You asked, covering the soft smile on your face behind the flowers.
“Because you’re adorable!” She grabbed the flowers, pulling them out of your grasp, ignoring your flustered state.
“Stop it.” You sighed, hiding your face behind your hands. You eyed her through your fingers as she smiled at you before staring down at the flowers, she eyed them before beginning to pull each flower out one by one as you dropped your hands back to your side, “red chrysanthemum means ‘I love you’,” she spoke as she plucked the red flower out and placed it behind your ear, “daisy means ‘loyal love’,” she let you know, pulling the white flower from the bouquet, “morning glory means ‘affection’, red rose means ‘I love you’, dwarf sunflower means ‘adoration’, yellow tulips means ‘there’s sunshine in your smile’, white lily means ‘my love is pure’, alyssums mean ‘worth beyond beauty’, dahlias mean ‘a lasting bond and commitment’, red tulips represent ‘true love’.” She listed off the other flowers in the bouquet.
She placed her hands on either side of your cheeks and stared in awe, “You’re not unoriginal, baby. This was original and adorable and I love it!” She cooed, pressing a soft kiss to your cheeks. She grabbed your hand, pulling you towards the kitchen with her where she placed the bouquet in a vase of water, placing it on the table in the corner beside her favourite cactus.
“I love you so much, (name).” She told you, pressing a soft kiss to your lips.
You smiled into the kiss before leaning forward and pressing your forehead against hers,
“I love you too, Señorita perfecta.” You grinned.

You placed your head in your hands with a loud groan. For the past two hours you had been switching between pacing, sighing and groaning into your pillow. Today was the day, the day you had to break up with Carlos. You had no idea how you were supposed to break up with the boy you loved.
Two days ago was Dolores’ wedding, wherein she let you know that she knew everything. “(Name), I’ve heard everything. I know how you feel about my brother, don’t break his heart.” She told you as the pair of you danced together, this was her way of talking to you so that the others wouldn’t hear.
“I have to, Dol,” you sighed, “I’m not his Cinderella.” You let her know.
You felt her heavy breath on your shoulder, “I wish it didn’t have to be like this.” She sighed, “just… just promise me that you’ll go easy on him when you do break up with him.” She pleaded.
“I promise.” You nodded your head, letting go of her as she was pulled away by her newly wedded husband.
The wedding was beautiful, you had danced with Carlos and had spent most of the night with him at the celebration after party during the evening, although something seemed off with him and you couldn’t quite pinpoint what it was. You had questioned him but he shrugged it off as just being tired.
However, the weirdness had continued over the past couple of days. He wasn’t his usual dorky annoying self around you anymore, like he had been the past few months. No, he was back to acting like he was fifteen again and being his annoying jerk ass self.
You rose to your feet once again, letting out an annoyed groan before leaving the house and heading out, knowing that you had to do it today. You had been invited to the Madrigal’s home for dinner. You stared up at the darkening sky, letting out a soft sigh- it was a warm evening and you knew Pepa had been having a good day all day, you also knew that you were about to ruin that. You knocked on the door of casita and it was pulled open by Carlos, “Hey baby.” He grinned at you.
“Hey, I.. uh, I was invited to dinner?” You sent him a small smile.
“Yeah.” He nodded, glancing over his shoulder before returning your smile. He also knew that today was the day. He stepped out of the way, letting you pass by him before letting out an exasperated sigh, he watched you walk into the dining room before following behind you, plastering a smile back on his face when he caught his mothers eye. You took a seat, sending a soft smile towards Pepa before politely passing around the food.
The end of dinner was coming, you stood in the kitchen washing the plates, Carlos was leant on the counter behind you, he was silently pleading for you not to break up with him, he had it in his head that you wouldn’t, you placed your plate down before turning to him. “We need to break up.” You spoke. You saw his face drop, his whole expression changed.
Carlos lifted his attention from the arepa he was eating and stared at you, “(Name), don’t do this.” He began, swallowing what was in his mouth and folding his arms over his chest.
You swallowed, taking a deep breath as you did, “I have to, Carlos.” You breathed out. He reached for you but you stepped back, lifting your hands up so he couldn’t grab them, “I’m so sorry.” You whispered.
He sighed, running his fingers through his hair slightly before nodding, “You know, I really thought we had something.” He began loudly, you cocked a brow as you stared at him, “We’ve been together like seven months and you’re treating me like this now?!” He yelled. You jumped slightly, “I know you didn’t love me, (name), but come on!” He snapped.
“I said I was sorry, Carlos! I don’t know what else you want me to say!” You snapped back.
“Was it all a joke to you?! Was it just some stupid game?!” He yelled, a look of hurt crossing each and every one of his features.
“N-no!” You responded, stepping back slightly. You were becoming all too aware of the fact that his family were slowly making their way into the kitchen. You let out a soft sigh, running a hand down your face as you stared at him, “I’m so sorry. We had an amazing seven months, Carlos. I… I’ve never been happier to be honest,” You sighed, a stray tear or two trickled down your cheek, “but I’m not your princess. I’m not your Cinderella, I’m not your happily ever after. Somebody out there is, but it isn’t me.” You told him, the tears becoming faster and more prominent. Carlos watched you, his face softened as he stared at you, watching the tears falling from your face. He glanced over his shoulder, seeing his family's sad faces as they watched the scene unfold, a cloud appearing above his mothers head as his father tried his best to calm her.
“(Name)…” He began, turning back to face you. His eyes radiating nothing but pain and sadness, he gulped hard, swallowing back the tears that were threatening to spill.
You shook your head, trying to wipe away your fallen tears, they continued pouring however, “You’re a good guy, Carlos. You’ll find your Cinderella someday.” You choked back a sob, as you placed your hands on his cheeks, “Thank you for giving me the best seven months of my entire life, Carlos.” You sniffled, planting a soft kiss to his lips before pulling yourself away and leaving a lingering taste on his lips as you walked away, you wiped your eyes with the back of the long sleeves of your dress as you quietly slipped past his family and left their home.
Carlos watched you go, tears slowly made their way down his face, “Oh, Carlos, I’m so sorry.” Pepa whispered, pulling her son into her arms.
Carlos shook his head, trying to wipe the tears as he hugged his mamá. He pulled out of the hug and walked past his family, sending a soft smile and slight nod to his Abuela before heading up the stairs. He dropped onto his bed and let the tears run freely down his face and onto his pillow. “God, I hate you (name). I hate you so fucking much.” He hiccuped.
You didn’t go out for the next few days, deciding to stay home and wallow; letting your tears pour. You let it all go until you didn’t have anymore tears left to cry, you were currently staring blankly at the wall of the library. You had been asked to go into work today, you sat at the desk and flicked through the pages of an old romance book. However, it didn’t take long for you to let out a long exasperated sigh and push the book away as you placed your head in your hands with a groan.
“What? I thought that one was your favourite?” You heard someone say.
You slowly lifted your head, recognising the voice, “What are you doing here?” You asked the maroon ruana wearing Madrigal.
He shrugged, “Can’t stay crying in my bedroom, can I?” He asked, sending a soft smile your way.
“The Amazing Carlos Madrigal was crying in his bedroom?” You cocked a brow, picking up the books and walking towards the shelves.
Carlos shoved his hands into his pockets and followed you, “You tell anyone, I’ll kill you.” He let out a soft chuckle. He then tilted his head, examining you, “Looks like you haven’t been doing much better.” He noted.
“How’d you guess?” You asked, placing the books on the correct shelves.
“I know you,” he shrugged, “also, there’s the fact that your eyes are puffy and red, you look like you haven’t had a good night's sleep since that night and also, you’re pushing away your favourite romance book, that’s not like you.” He counted the points on his fingers. “And my final point would just be that you look terrible.” He shrugged, a mischievous smile growing on his lips.
You let out a soft chuckle, placing the final book on the shelf before turning to him, “What are you doing here, Madrigal?” You questioned.
“I’m a fan of the romance books here.” He shrugged, picking a random book from the shelf and flicking through the pages.
You cocked a brow, taking the book from his hands and placing it back in its slot on the shelves, you folded your arms over your chest and cocked a brow, leaning against the shelf and tilting your head slightly.
“I wanted to see you again.” He finally admitted, biting his lip as he watched you, “I really wanted to see you.”
You stared at him, lifting your hand and moving the hair from over his eye slightly with a small smile, “Mirabel sent you to check up on me, you mean?” You asked.
“No, she didn’t. Look, I really wanna try again, (name).” He sighed, “But for real this time, no using each other, no timeframe, nothing like that. Just us enjoying being with each other, Prince Charming and Cinderella…” He grabbed your hand slightly, pulling you closer to him. “I love you, (name).” He finished, staring into your eyes.
You stared up at him, a soft smile playing on your lips, “I’d like that.” You nodded, standing on your tiptoes to press a soft kiss to his lips. “Also,” you began, pulling back and staring up at him, “I love you too.” You smiled, grabbing another set of books and turning around, leaving Carlos wide eyed and speechless.
You began placing the books on their designated shelves before feeling a hand wrap around your wrist, spinning you into him as he dipped you and pressed his lips against yours in a passionate kiss. Your lips moved in sync, his hands were pressed against the small of your back; holding you up so you didn’t fall, your hand ran through his hair whilst the other was gripping on to the book you were holding when he grabbed you.
“You can’t just tell me something like that and then walk away, mi vida.” He smirked, pulling away from the kiss as he stared into your love drunk eyes.
A playful smirk appeared on your lips as you stared up at him, “you were so frozen, I didn’t wanna intrude.” You giggled.
He leaned down once again, pressing his lips against yours in a short sweet kiss, “You’re lucky you’re so cute.” He smiled against your lips.
You pulled back, a playful smile still lingering on your lips, “Is badboy Carlos Madrigal going soft?” You teased, a playful glint emanating from your eyes.
He glared down at you, pulling his arms from around you, almost dropping you to the ground, “Carlos, wait!” You panicked, reaching out for him. He quickly grabbed your hand before you hit the ground and pulled you to your feet.
“You know I’d never let you fall, mi vida.” He whispered, pressing his lips to the top of your ear before pulling away. “Meet me by the fountain tonight at seven, mi vida, it’s time for a real date.” He sent a wink your way before walking away.
You watched him go, feeling yourself becoming visibly flustered as a faint pink dusted your cheeks, “Fucking hell, Madrigal. What’re you doing to me?” You whispered, placing the book in its designated spot and heading back towards your desk.
You placed your hands over your cheeks before seeing a shadow come over your desk once again, you lifted your head to see a smirking Carlos, “One more thing…” He began, leaning over the desk and pressing his lips against yours in a quick kiss, “I love you.” He mumbled against your lips before pulling away and turning on his heel, heading out of the library door. You watched him go, feeling your cheeks heat up as your mouth slowly curved into a smile, you let your head drop onto your desk before sighing,
“I love you too, asshole.” You groaned quietly, hiding the smile that was currently shining brighter than the dull lamps around the old, dusty, cobweb ridden library.
