Somebody else called my attention to one more attack to Spuffy fans – you know, those who “deserve to be raped for supporting such a VILE ship”, so I’ve decided to throw my two cents:

Spuffy fans are just terrible, they even threatened Sarah Michelle Gellar’s life over her choice for Bangel!

Please, while I agree about the very bad taste of such messages as well as how they are gross and totally uncalled for, if the threats were something resembling a real danger, Sarah would NEVER have talked so lightly about them in an interview – she’s a mom of two, and obviously any (real) threat to her life would be also a threat to her children, and it would have been properly handled (by the Law). They were probably written by teenagers who still don’t know how to behave online. So, think people, and stop making a big deal out of it.

And Bangel fans are so very nice and sane – until, of course, Sarah congratulates James Marsters for his Birthday (The Sin!), and signs “your pet” (The Horror!). Just take a look on Sarah’s Twitter, and you’ll see some of them harassing her over such a trivial matter; imagine the private messages poor Sarah probably – no, certainly - received!

By this small example, I just can see the Bangels’s nicety be thrown out the window if, God forbid, Sarah made the mistake of changing her mind… LOL

The fact is that, there are clueless people in both camps.

Edit: I forgot to mention that writer Christos Gage (BtVS comics) was also harassed in his Twitter by a Bangel fan (over the Spufiness of Season 10) - he had to block her.

I'm trying to respond to the Spike bashing post but I can't, I guess the original poster had blocked me a long time ago. I think it's a very simple way of looking at the Spuffy relationship in S6. The OP neglects to note that Buffy does initiate the sex a lot of times. Buffy also admits that she was using Spike. I don't like it when Buffy is seen as the victim. Buffy is a grown woman who makes her own decisions and for her to be a feminist icon she needs to be held responsible for her actions.

 I hate the whole idea that because you are in a depressed state the choices you make should not have consequences. You might as well ask for pretty cartoon birdies to wake her from the windowsill. The rough part of spinning out of control in any situation is the fact that your choices suck and you have to live with them. She is adult enough to realize this - and so is he.

I agree that robbing Buffy of agency, and declaring her only role in season 6 to be a victim is more destructive to her as a character than any other interpretation. There has not been any passive female victim in this show - and we are gonna start with Buffy? And then add on to that the unsouled demon is supposed to be a gentle therapist who can reach her, and walk her into the sunlight…Spike is vilified for trying to reach her, for giving her what she asked for and not realizing what she really needed. That’s a higher bar than the one set for every one of the other characters.

It’s a hit piece - a classic. Take the worst possible interpretation of a character’s actions and add it all together. Throw in the ugliest motivations you can imagine - make the other character as frail as a tiny orphan with cancer - then spit it out with all the bile you have.

I’m seeing a lot more of this aimed at Xander. I know you are, too. But no on gets hate like Spike in this fandom.

I should make my point clear about this Spike hate conflict: I am not against Spikes playing Commander. I am against the fact that many players thinks it’s acceptable to pursuit victory in Casual game at all costs, including everyone’s experience. My hatred towards Spike players was not aimed at whole group or individual players but those who have been demonstrating this kind of behavior. I am tremendously sorry if I and my wenting has offended anyone. I repeat again that my experience with the competitive community (especially in casual formats) has been utter crap and has left me feeling hurt and frustrated.

(Edit: Please note that this rant was meant as mean of wenting and should not be considered an attack or an argument) I’ll be honest here: I fucking hate spikes. I get that bring variety to games but when your meta consist for 150% of them it’s eternal hell of no fun for everyone. I can’t relax at games at all because at any moment one of players will proceed to play something that will ruin the game, just because they can. My experience with spikes is load of @&%#. They will whine and throw tantrums if they are stopped, and will throw another one if their opponent isn’t. They will instantly label deck by it’s commander, without even seeing how it plays and do not negotiate (unless it’s a chance to whine and pit opponents against each other). If your deck isn’t 100% competitive your game is going to be utter hell. In conclusion: sorry, not sorry, but fuck spikes.
