but it appears he just fell off the map

he was only gone a day or two thankfully, but ugh you stupid man you shouldn't have left in the first place
when he steps back onto the Bebop, many things happen at once
Faye starts screaming at him and goes to fight him, Jet instantly holds her back but is giving him the Disappointed Dad Look™️, Ein is barking his head off, and you're just gaping at him like a fish out of water
he literally doesn't even react to any of it, doesn't even bat an eye
he just walks over to you and gives you the softest, guiltiest look you've ever seen from him
"Can we talk, (Y/n)? Alone?" he asks softly
with him being closer to you now, you can see the bags under his eyes
"Um, sure," you squeak out before standing up
your heart skips a beat when he takes ahold of your hand to lead you away
"Faye, it's fine," you say as you pass her, giving her a reassuring look with a smile
she stops mid-kick towards him (where Jet is still holding her back) to look at you
she huffs and nods her head, lowering her foot back to the ground
Spike leads you to his room and closes the door behind him, locking it for extra precaution so that your conversation won't be interrupted by an angry Faye or a disappointed Jet
you instantly take a seat on his bed, remembering all the times you've been in this room
each time you've been in this room, talking wasn't exactly the goal
you feel...awkward
especially since he's just standing by the door, refusing to look at you
"So..." you start, hoping to give him a nudge
you outta yell at him until his ears bleed for how he left things
but honestly?
you kinda understand
sure, it hurt that he left, but if someone suddenly sprang on you that your whole life was going to change
you'd freak out too
plus, you know his history
so it's no surprise he reacted the way he did
he and commitment have been beefin for years
"Look, I'm sorry for leaving like that. I just..." he trails off, sighing as he runs his hands through his fluffy hair
it looks messier than usual, almost like he's been tugging at it relentlessly
"Spike, it's okay. I understand. I'm still mad at you, but I get it," you reassure, clasping your hands into your lap
he sighs in relief at that part, finally bringing his gorgeous eyes to yours
he opens his mouth to say more but you quickly intervene
"Listen, Spike. I don't expect you to help out. I know you have your whole "I hate kids, animals, and women" thing, so I won't make you have to put up w-"
"Can I talk?" he asks
he doesn't say it in a rude way, if anything, his face is scrunched up like he's in pain
"Yeah, sorry. Sure," you apologize, nodding your head to give him the metaphorical floor
you watch him take a deep breath, his strong chest expanding with the air
"I left to go clear my head. I didn't want to have to think things over with your puppy dog eyes always staring at me, with Jet's dad voice always lecturing me, with Ein giving me the stink eye as he camps out at your feet or in your lap, with Faye...being Faye. I just...I needed to think."
you nod your head in understanding, remaining quiet so he could finish what he had to say
"At first, I thought there's no way I could be a father. I mean, I don't even know the first thing about being a dad! But then..." he trails off once more
you, again, stay silent, giving him an encouraging nod
he closes his eyes for a moment
when he opens them, he suddenly looks determined
he walks over to you and kneels on the ground before you, his hands going to your knees
"But then...I couldn't stop thinking about you. Everywhere I went. It didn't matter where because there you were. Always there. In the bar? I remember the time you smashed a bottle over a bounty's head. In the Swordfish? I remember the times I taught you to fly her. In the fucking men's restroom, I imagine your sweet face covered in my cum after I came all over it."
