“Turning” into a studio
So here we are back from a crazy wet weekend at the Silverstone Classic (more on that later) and we’ve finally got a moment to update you all on the progress of the studio!
The beginning of last week saw the bulk of our equipment packed up and moved into temporary storage at our audio facility, leaving just the turntable, floating ceiling and lighting rig to be moved. Looking at the busy schedule ahead of us it seemed like Thursday was as good a time as ever to get the whole lot dismantled and loaded into a van. There was a short debate on appropriate footwear as Emma bounced in ready for the day sporting flip flops and immediately tried to take a toe off with the end of a metal sheet...Rupert had taken the sensible option of steel toe-caps...think we can all learn a lesson there!
Several trips later and the original turntable was stacked against the wall in the new building ready for installation.
Fast forward a few days to yesterday when the chaps from Spin-it arrived with our enormous new turntable. Drawing on our experiences in the old place we have made some changes to the design of our new cove. Our main turntable is 5m in diameter, large enough for any car (including that long wheel base Phantom!) and has the added advantage of a socket on the turntable. Being able to plug in and spin is a really exciting prospect not only for our spinning work but also for some of our video and TV work.
And here is our new finished turntable sitting proudly, awaiting the screed around the outside...
Cove walls going up today and tomorrow, more updates coming soon!
