FROM ATYD Spinks and Spungen
Introducing Spunge and Spinks from All The Young Dudes
What do you say?
You don't know who they are?
How could you not know? If you've read ATYD or heard of it, you must know them. They are among the main characters. Above all, Spinks is the absolute protagonist of the story.
He is an orphaned boy who was abandoned by his mother in an orphanage after he was transformed into a werewolf. His abusive father took his own life, leaving Spinks alone in the world. At least until the principal of a private school came to him and told him he could offer him education and shelter.
Spinks is so multifaceted; he rejects other people for fear of hurting them and, above all, of being hurt, but in reality, he wants nothing more than friends and acceptance. He struggles with his werewolf status and also with his attraction to boys. Confused and scared, he lives his years at school, finding friends, lovers, and even enemies. Enter Spungen, Spinks's main rival. He's a rich, snobbish boy, arrogant, and snobbish. He immediately targets Spinks for his secondhand clothes and his shabby, poor appearance. He'll never leave him alone and will torment him throughout his school years. But Spinks won't remain passive; he will assert himself and, with the support of his friends, will manage to give Spungen and the henchmen he brings with him a good lesson.
Intriguing, right?
If you've actually read ATYD, you'll know that there's no such thing as Spungen or Spinks. These are the names I gave to Remus and Severus, because ATYD, despite being presented as a canon complaint, isn't canon at all.
The chronology is messed up, the characters' backgrounds are different, and practically all the characters are OOC. So much so that in my chapter-by-chapter dismantling of the FF (which you can find HERE, Part 5 is coming soon)
I mentally started replacing the names of Remus and Severus (and others) with Spungen and Spinks. This was to be able to continue reading the story. Because, if taken as an AU story, divergent from the canon with original characters (OC), it's not bad at all.
The problem is reading it as a fan of the saga and the canonical characters.
This is truly impossible because every two lines you stop, stare into space, and mentally scream: "What the hell?!" and that's a real shame.
I've said many times that I believe there should be a clear distinction between fans of the saga and so-called Marauders, because they aren't really fans of HP, but of completely distorted characters and stories that they use to pollute the fandom.
For years, I've hoped that MFans would find the courage to write original stories and support an autonomous fandom unrelated to HP. But they don't, they don't intend to, and so well...
I decided to do it myself, in my own small way, of course, to give dignity to these OCs who, detached from the fandom, would actually have so much to offer.
So to start, here are Spungen and Spinks.
The names aren't definitive, obviously; I used these because they're the names discarded by the author of HP, which were initially those of Draco Malfoy. I'm accepting suggestions for the new names of Remus and Severus.
I initially thought of writing ATYD from Snape's point of view, but that would be truly impossible because it wouldn't be Snape's POV, but rather that of an arrogant, bullying OC who has his own name, and I really don't care.
But with these new characters, something can be done.
You'll see.
Yes, another one of my crazy projects.
