Unknown Lizard Species, Possible Sceloporus (Spiny Lizard) Species? Pahranagat National Wildlife Refuge, Alamo, Nevada, USA September, 2018

Tumblr, if you know any reptile or wildlife experts in Nevada, I would appreciate an id for this lizard. I’ve visually checked against ~100 species found in the Southwest US and have yet to find even a close match. The only identifying feature that has narrowed the search is the line of scales at the base of the eyes as mentioned here.

It’s kind of hard to tell but check out this “Big Lizard in My Backyard”! He was about 6 inches (not including his tail). This was the biggest lizard I’ve seen in the wild! 🦎

They’re called Spiny Lizards. I just read up on them & they’re pretty neat! They challenge others to push up contests! 😄
