but why would anyone bother being kind to him? he’s a stranger, an odd looking one as well. in a place where no one recognized him yet most interactions towards him were equally hostile; and he didn’t really try being friendly either. he just does whatever necessary to survive, tired from yet another pointless search but at least he found a village that so far only one bothered being nice to him. and yet, he’s still hesitant about it.

(( The kinds where he jokingly tells Tulin that he needs to battle him for his food. But the joke is seriously delivered and Tulin can't tell that it's a joke and actually whacks papa with a stick.
[[ I’d like to think as time moves on, both Tulin and Saki can tell when Teba is joking or not. They can also tell when he’s angry as such unlike with someone who isn’t around him as much.
