Spitfire's wig was a fun little project! I started with a Pale Blonde Malinda from Arda wigs. It has the wefts sewn in backwards to make it easy to pull up and spike. This made creating the hairline a breeze. Alternatively you could go with a lace front - but I had goggles to cover my hairline so I opted not to spend the extra money. I used iDye Poly to create an orange dye bath. I sectioned off a piece of wig that I wanted to be orange and began dunking it in the dye bath. There is a tutorial on arda where they actually cut the wig into two pieces to achieve this effect, but I wanted to avoid cutting the wig or sewing it back together so I went with this method. I dunked the wig for about 25-30min to achieve a dark orange saturated color. I could have probably stopped around 20 because I think it may have turned out a bit too dark. The bad thing about iDye poly is the dye packet is in a water soluable pouch, so it is difficult to only use a bit. I will probably try Rit Dyemore next time since you are able to partition only a few spoonfuls of dye at a time. After the wig dunked for 30 min, i rinsed it with cool water. There was barely any bleedoff, the dye took so quickly! I was really impressed. After the wig dried I styled it into a fashion fauxhawk and trimmed some bangs. Viola! Spitfire wig! . . . . #mlpcosplay #mlpfim #wonderbolts #ardawigs #spitfirecosplay #spitfire #ardawigs #cosplaywip #idyepoly
