We kind of lucked out that BSD came before the isekai boom. Can you imagine telling someone that one of your favourite animangas is something like 'I rescued a guy committing suicide from the river and discovered I was a tiger all along!'?

#bsd #humor #spitting nonsense #on a slightly different (which is to say completely irrelevant) note....#....i do sometimes think about how the manga started with atsushi saying it was pretty stupid and worthless of him to save a guy from dying #and then did it anyway #kind of matches the themes of the entire manga...that maybeeee choosing life or choosing to save someone might feel pretty meaningless...#...but maybe it starts off the whole narrative #so blah blah blah the absurdity of the premise and the humour of it all but also the thematic meaning #because it was played off as a joke...and then the whole manga is trying to dissect the meaning of life and death (among many many MANY....#...other things)#back to the actual post....just based off of me seeing so many hilarious titles on anime/manga sites and afjsioejriwoerje #no hate on them but they keep getting progressively longer and its the funniest thing in the world

BSD is a great manga because you have a guy who turns into a tiger, a guy whose power is his emo coat, a guy who shows up in two scenes and blows the place up with lemon bombs and isn't really relevant beyond that, a fandom telling us with a straight fact that they ship these people who sure sound a lot like dead authors, a giant whale falling from the sky, fyodor being and anemic anime villain, a scene where one of the characters is tripping on mushrooms because he mistook them for poison (because he was trying to kill himself), vampires, eldritch monsters, a girl wearing the head and chest of a vampire as a backpack, and the power of autism....and somehow it's still a painfully relatable story with dissectable themes
