Just another worldbuilding splap! Unlike most Earth insects, most bugs and bug like creatures that parallel Earth insects of the TSoD world do not have complete metamorphosis. Some may have partial metamorphosis, but most bugs have nymphs instead of larva. Most have four limbs, two arms and two legs, instead of six, though many non-sapient animal-equivalent bugs do have six legs.
A good example of these differences is butterflies and moths in the TSoD world. They aren't really much like butterflies or moths in our world at all, aside from some similarities in appearance. They have some huge differences. For one, moths and butterflies are two different subspecies and can crossbreed, unlike Earth moths and butterflies. They do have numerous "breeds", but all of these different types can interbreed among themselves, unlike the numerous lepidoptera species on Earth. One of the biggest differences between TSoD world butterflies and moths is the fact that they have fur that is firmly attached to their plating, rather than dust like hairs that come off. Instead of scales on their wings, their wings are covered in short, sleek fur! They also have much different faces and eye structures, having plates that resemble teeth. They have tongues that are long and hollow and can act as a proboscis. It also functions for speech as well. They mainly eat nectar and fruits. They live much longer, too. While earth moths and butterflies are very fleeting, TSoD moths and butterflies actually live a bit longer than humans!
Another huge difference... They don't start life as caterpillars. Instead, they are nymphs! They just look like chubby, fuzzy mini moths! They are also nurtured by their parents, and fed fruit and nectar as they grow instead of just left on the bottom of a leaf. Due to nurturing their young and their long lives, they usually have 1-3 eggs, which is pretty average for TSoD bugs. They will carry these eggs for about 6 months, and the eggs take roughly 1-2 weeks to hatch. They are usually kept somewhere warm until they hatch. Nymphs reach adulthood in about 15 years.
TDoD moths and butterflies are endothermic (or warm-blooded) and produce their own body heat. Their optimum body temperature is naturally about the same as a human. While they do have the plating and segmented limbs like many TSoD bugs, they are actually almost mammalian in some ways. They do not, however, produce any milk or milk like substance which sets them apart from mammals despite some of their superficial similarities.
TDoD moths and butterflies are not true moths and butterflies. Instead, like all the numerous TSoD bug species, they are vastly different alien creatures that just happen to have a strong resemblance to a creature found in our own world.
