@deluxe-distrait‘s Splatlads AU has taken over my brain.
This is the first time I did a comic like this, so it’s very much far from perfect, but I had a lot of fun doing it! Tldr on the background/lore is: When Dan left for the surface people thought he’d been kidnapped and later came to get him back (taking Kevin while they were at it). The rest of the disaster squad try to rescue them of course, but they end up running into some trouble in the form of Dan’s old friend Spiff.

Seán met Kevin while he was busking on the street and decided to rope him into his (then nonexistent) band, becoming best friends. He doesn’t bring up the whole “being an octoling in a world full of inklings” thing. Kevin’s probably just trying his best to integrate into society, so Seán just treats him like any other.

Daithi’s known in the ranked scene for being both the first and last person you want on your team. He’s good at the sport and absurdly tall for an inkling, but he’s also insufferably loud and causes a lot of bickering within his own team. When he’s not causing problems in ranked battles and turf wars, he’s off working part time for Grizzco… and pocketing the illegal weaponry he finds along the way.
Brian has difficulty fully changing his ink colour due to a past incident, which makes him susceptible to all ink. Including his teammates. He’s been crushed by rollers and blasted by friends bombs enough times to know he has to play the game dangerously; move as fast as he can and juggle the impossible act of being hyper-visible to his teammates, and invisible to his foes.
Daniel went AWOL from the Octarian military after hearing the Calamari incantation from just beneath the surface. He made his escape on a whim and wandered though the wasteland armed with only a bucket to reach Inkopolous. He didn’t speak a lick of Inklish when Sean found him, so they named him “Bucket” for the time being until he could tell them his real name. Any time he needs help, he turns to Kevin.
