thank u @dualiesquelcherloveblog for having the guts to say what everyone in the splatoon fandom tiptoes around. nintendo has a Big problem with whitewashing their black characters and/or sexualising them, it’s something that needs to be addressed and the number of splatoon blogs i see trying to defend it is really gross. not to mention the pedophilia that plays into it too; everyone is quick to say “but pearl and marina are adults!” but the fact that they’re said to be a certain age doesn’t change the fact that they’re clearly drawn to look like teenagers, especially considering they look no different from the rest of the inklings/octolings that are supposed to be 14, it’s a little sketchy.

it was bad before when everyone was ignoring it, but now seeing the number of splatoon blogs arguing with Squelchie and trying to dismiss their experiences and feelings is gross. the splatoon community on tumblr is largely white, myself included, we need to listen to people of color when they’re talking about racism in our community. don’t try to derail conversations about racism, especially colorism and anti-blackness, with “facts” about how “Actually It’s Okay For Nintendo To Do This Because-“, these are actual people. listen to what they have to say instead of immediately jumping to defend racist media
